From your Anthro Mentor(297 in CSE 2023) Scoring good marks (290+) in anthropology? There are few important things to be kept in while - I. Preparing 1. Building conceptual clarity over all syllabus topics without leaving any unit or word mentioned. 2. Having notes for basic information/content on the units, which we get from our standard sources. (books like ember and ember, p. Nath, tribal india etc, ignou material, YT videos of Prof Bhattacharya, topper notes such as M. Patki sir's or N. Amit sir's or Laghima mam's etc) or (some coaching institute's comprehensive notes) 3. Writing PYQs 4. Regularly revising factual content - sites, books, scholar names. II. Answers should be- (following is what we'll be working on in answer writing for most part of our program) 1. To the point, hitting the demand of the question (sometimes, we write what we know as we have prepared for the topic and are unable to use the already known content by moulding it for the given question and its demand) 2. Presented well - a) basic structure of intro, body, conclusion (what to and what not to write in the intros, conclusions is very important, to show your command over the subject. We will be discussing this in our sessions) b) ease of reading the answer for the examiner i.e. is there a logical continuity? 3. Pulling content from various other units accross papers (not just theories) to give interlinks, examples, case studies after the basic content (Itself can be an X factor) - this needs practice, we will be discussing on how to do so in the given time available. (We know a lot of content from all the units but while writing answers, we restrict ourselves to the unit from where the question is and try and run after more and more case studies) For eg. In a question on tribal markets, which basically works both on economic aspects and socio-cultural aspects, can we put a case study which we already know from some other unit? Yes, Bali cockfight study by C. Geertz who shows how the whole society's culture is at display during the weekly market held. 4. Making answers more and more anthropologically relevant and not generic. For eg. why are we even studying dna technology applications in anthropology OR paper 2 answers. III. Inside the exam hall 1. Time management- finishing the paper- speed speed and speed, cant stop to think and then write, need to write non-stop, and how to do we get there? a) writing pyqs and new questions - so our brain is regularly doing the practice of pulling content faster from known knowledge for that answer b) having frameworks for different units 2. Choosing questions wisely and not being anxious when you dont know the question at all. 3. Even if not having much content on certain outlier questions, clarity of thought is rewarded in whatever little you write for it. Now, if you are not leaving any question blank in the anthropology optional paper - But getting 220-240s? It is mainly because - demand of the question is not being hit, sometimes errors due to lack of conceptual clarity, basic content of the unit written which was mugged up but unable to show clarity if anything different is asked, having generic/gs type answers. For Eg. In a question on Genetico-environmental determinants on growth. (Unit 10 of paper 1) -Why cant we use case studies from tribal india of paper 2, which talks about various tribes and their growth being affected due to environmental, socio-cultural factors? And to score 290s? It means having the clarity, to the point answers, able to use the same content according the exact demand of the question, showcasing the command over subject by drawing interlinks accross the syllabus, having anthropologically relevant answers and also some luck.
