#global27 In 2024, the Ministry of Steel launched a roadmap for greening the steel sector as a long-term pathway for decarbonisation in line with India’s net-zero 2070 target. They have allocated ₹455 crore for pilot projects till 2029-30. Interestingly, in 2025, Niti Aayog proposed reforms to ease imports in the steel sector by the downstream industry, which suggested the removal of QCOs on 100 steel products. By April 2026, QCOs for approximately 50 steel products have been suspended by the Ministry of Steel.

| 4 | #initiatives27 The Project is entrusted with the maintenance and development of 811 km of roads and approximately 86 bridges, ranging from culverts to major steel and arch bridges. Some of its major engineering achievements include the 100-metre steel arch bridge over Siyom Nallah and the 165 metre PSC bridge over Simang Nallah on the Along–Yingkiong Road.

| 8 | #science27 This type of supernova has proven valuable in investigating the universe’s structure based on evidence that all of these explosions have roughly the same luminosity. Their observed brightness differs depending upon their distance from earth, making them useful as cosmic mile markers.

| 9 | #initiatives27 The guidelines will also establish a robust digital ecosystem for monitoring anemia services across beneficiary groups. Hemoglobin testing records for pregnant women will be mapped through the JANANI Portal, while records for children will be captured through the RBSK and U-WIN portals. These platforms will converge into a unified AMB Abhiyaan Portal, enabling comprehensive monitoring, analysis and evidence-based planning.

| 10 | #initiatives27 A pilot implementation of the Portal was launched in Chandauli District of Uttar Pradesh on 1 April 2025. The platform is hosted and managed with the technical support of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and incorporates contemporary software engineering practices, including Git-based version control systems and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) workflows.

| 11 | #science27 In a new study in Science Advances, an international team of researchers has reported finding organic matter on Mars. Using the NASA Perseverance rover, the team recorded a distribution of complex organic carbon within an ancient river valley on the red planet’s Jezero Crater. Using the rover’s SHERLOC instrument, the researchers detected a complex and hardy form of organic matter called macromolecular carbon within fine-grained mudstones.

| 12 | #initiatives27 Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) today inaugurated the world's first Hydrogen Production Facility based on the Copper–Chlorine (Cu–Cl) Thermochemical Cycle utilizing nuclear process heat generated from the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam. Among the various hydrogen production technologies under development worldwide, the Cu–Cl thermochemical cycle is considered one of the most promising due to its relatively lower operating temperatures and higher thermodynamic efficiency.

| 17 | #science27 This is what a group of researchers at the University of California at Santa Barbara, led by Prof. Grace Han, have done by designing what are referred to as molecular photo-switches. These involve molecules that, upon absorbing solar light, convert themselves into a different shape (called isomerisation) and store the energy. This is referred to as photo-switching. Here, the molecule stores solar thermal energy in a molecular form, also known as molecular solar thermal (or MOST). The molecule the researchers have chosen, after consultation with a group at University of California at Los Angeles, is an alkaloid called 2-pyrimidone.

| 20 | #environment27 The golden langur (Trachypithecus geei) has one of the most restricted primate ranges in the world, found only in a narrow geographic corridor comprising western Assam and the foothills of southern Bhutan. Their 30,000 sq. km domain is bounded by rivers, including the Brahmaputra, on three sides and mountains in Bhutan on the fourth. The Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park forms part of the Manas Biosphere Reserve and provides habitat for several rare and endangered species, including the golden langur.
