Thirteen years.
Sometimes I wonder what that younger version of me would think if he saw me today. Back then, life revolved around one exam, one hall ticket, one dream called UPSC. Sleepless nights, dog-eared books, underlined newspapers, railway journeys with hope packed heavier than luggage.
I did not clear it.
And life moved on — quietly, stubbornly, unexpectedly.
Today, among all the certificates, files, transfers, responsibilities, and years that followed, what remains physically from that chapter is this one ₹100 note. The reimbursement money from the train ticket for the exam journey.
Strange, isn’t it?
An entire dream once carried in a small envelope.
A reminder of ambition, struggle, innocence, and the courage to attempt something enormous.
At one point, I thought not clearing UPSC meant failure.
Now I realise it was simply life redirecting me.
The exam tested knowledge.
But the years after it tested resilience.
And perhaps that matters more.
This ₹100 note is no longer currency to me. It is memory.
Proof that once upon a time, a younger man dared greatly — even without guarantees.
Some dreams do not come true exactly as imagined.
But they still shape the person we become.

2012 prelims was our first prelims. Nearly 8 of us from our room wrote that prelims that day.It was around May 20 to 25, some day between that we wrote our prelims. It was the hottest day of that year. It is one of the most memorable day of my life.
I know how much pressure a prelims exam can build . But looking back it all makes sense.
Study well. Do not stress too much.revise the basics. It will all make sense to you some day.)
