Discord is removing the USER#XXXX (user#discriminator) and replaces it with a @USER instead (pomelo) Discord's blog announcement about the new usernames: https://discord.com/blog/usernames The blog post explains that they will slowly remove the USER#XXXX system and replace it with a more known @USER system (2-32 characters, only lowercase a-z and 0-9 digits are allowed inside the tag) The @USER system is also called pomelo The main reasons for changing how the username system is working: - People can't remember 4 digits - People use non-ascii (a-z and 0-9) which makes it very hard or even impossible to type the name out - Popular names like Mike/Jane already have too many users (10k+) so you can't use it Reasons against the username change: - Users will have to add numbers behind their name or obscure it in a different way like @sliegfried123 because the clean @siegfried name is already claimed - Privacy is limited now that everyone will see if a username is already claimed and might even annoy you to sell it - People who paid for nitro to obtain @User#0001 will now lose that privilege (Discord will find a different worse way to make money...) - Websites or other places where your Username#Discriminator is already written will be invalid What to do against it Within the first 1-2 hours already 100-200 people have voted against it here: - Discord Support forum report against it: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/14337329256983--Do-NOT-add-The-new-discord-usernames-system - Change.org petition against it: https://www.change.org/p/discord-add-back-discriminators?signed=true If you don't want this to be happening please vote and let other people know about this change.
