tips for emath!! from a person that jumped from f9 to b3 😭 math is genuinely just a continuous grind to familiarise yourself with the questions + answer format.. this is somewhat more catered for current sec 3 / O / N level students so if you dont know or dont have tys, you can use your assessment books / online practice papers!! for context, tys = ten year series ∘₊✧─────────────────✧₊∘ general tips: - figure out what topics youre weak at through class tests and slowly drill on those parts with diff materials you have - topical tys!!!! topical tys is so important!! if you dont wanna spend more money on assessment books you can just do topical tys on topics youre weak at + revision on other topics. - do ask your teachers for extra practice papers!! my emath teacher was the best teacher ever and gave us so much topical + yearly practice papers. do try to ask your teachers for them im sure they would be happy to provide you with them - personally, before i do any questions, i would try to identify the topic the question is under. it helps me recall the formulas that i may need way better. - have a revision schedule!! dont just grind on nath and ignore the rest of the subjects.. ( i did that cause i liked math too much.. did not turn out well ) if yall need i can make a mock revision schedule for yall!! ∘₊✧─────────────────✧₊∘ for everyday revision: - do around 5 - 10 ( or more ) questions everyday!! it doesnt have to be die die every single day but please do it when youre able to!! it may seem like a chore cause its math and you always have to do the topics you are not that good at, but itll all pay off for that final exam i promise!! - test yourself about your formulas every other day!! formulas are such a big part of math. you also have to make sure you understand what the formula is for!! ( i always draw a diagram or write down the topics related to the formula when testing myself ) - tys. topical or yearly, use them. you have a lot of time rn, you can do like 1 set of yearly tys every other weekend + topical tys to fill in the gaps. ∘₊✧─────────────────✧₊∘ for last min revision ( at least 2/3 days before exam ): - do as much practice questions as you possibly can. especially on the topics you cmi. imo, its a bit useless to repeatedly finish each tys paper. id rather focus on the parts i dont fully understand yet. but please do what helps you most!! - please do remember to do 1 or 2 full tys paper to make sure you dont miss out on any topics!! its extremely common for us to think we understand some topics but we actually forgot how to do them!! - formulas formulas formulas!! im pretty sure my friends saw me staring into my formula notes right before the exam.. i also write down all the formulas that i typically forget at the formula page when we start the paper!! ∘₊✧─────────────────✧₊∘ my emath notes #straw_tips

Repost from sushi corner 🍣
hi! i jumped from an f9 for prelims to a c5 for my o levels poa, so i wanted to make this post to share what i did to study for poa (^__^) 1. notes writing out notes for poa was a key reason why i improved a lot. i read through textbooks, teacher's notes and noted down things from answer schemes so that i knew what to do when answering questions. don't make your notes overcomplicated with excessive highlighting/colours to make it easier for you to focus on 1 thing. use boxes, columns, rephrasing into baby words for easier understanding and comprehension of what you write. only highlight definitions and keywords so that your attention is focused on important segments of sentences. this is also to make it easier to break down what you revised into smaller bites that can be easily linked to make it simpler for you to understand 2. practice nearer towards o levels, i did almost 2 full papers per week. i focused a lot of my time doing the financial statements and definition questions because these are the things you want to get the marks for in o's (active recalling). other questions you may want to heavily focus on to score includes but not limited to: ⁃ stating of theories ⁃ questions that requires you to state shareholders/purposes ⁃ journal entries for essay questions or what you may call as sbq questions, i HIGHLY suggest you to only practise by writing out keypoints only if you do not have enough time to have fully structured paragraphs. the answer key will not point out your grammar or whatnot, so just make sure you capture all the keypoints. but personally, practising your financial statements till you get consistent 17 and above marks. 3. active recall no time to do question papers daily? (.... i did daily papers..) best and easiest way to actively memorise your definitions, accounting theories, formulas is by using flashcards! my teachers made quizizz links for each specific topic for us to do at our own time. she also did these competitions to encourage others to do the quizizz often and get higher points which in return allows us to do extra revision that is extra fun! make quizizz links to use or you can ask your teachers to use this method if you aren't sure of how to come up with quizizz questions. a really fun way to study allows you to concentrate and do the questions better instead of the dull, boring ways of studying. COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS 1. poa is NOT a calculations concentrated subject poa requires you to do a lot of memory work. this is why you'll see more poa students grinding and studying theory content because there is a lot of theory things to remember. you can practise the calculations questions but personally, i think that theory-based questions takes up a bigger chunk of the subject more than you expect. 2. you don't need score a full 20 marks for financial statement for an a1 i found this point through the site https://poatutor.com.sg/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/5-POA-Mistakes-A-Repeat-Student-Wished-He-Knew.pdf. truthfully, the full 20 marks will look nice on your paper but it's not necessary to score full marks to get an a1 in the paper. given that paper 1 is 40 marks and paper 2 is 60 marks, a full 20 marks in paper 1 and low marks in other sections may not be enough for an A1. my teacher encouraged us to aim as much as we could for paper 1 and it's possible to get above 35 marks in paper 1. for example, you could score full marks in paper 1 if you studied the theory content and you'll only need 10 marks for a c6. thus you should try your best in theory as it can potentially carry your grade these are things i held on during o's and it clearly helped as i jumped from an f9 to c5. but of course, consistent efforts and discipline is super important during the entire process. if you do not put in effort, even the bare minimum from the start by completing homework and doing a little bit of daily recaps, it's not going to be easy for you to achieve that good grade. that being said, poa is a rather enjoyable subject if you make it to be. good luck 😆 #sushitips #sushi_poa
