The National Medical Commission (NMC) has reported that India currently has 1,28,976 MBBS seats, 85,020 postgraduate medical seats, and 818 medical colleges across the country. Sharing this information in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel said that the number of medical colleges has increased by 111.36%, rising from 387 in 2013–14 to 818 at present. During the same period, MBBS seats increased by 151.18% from 51,348 to 1,28,976, while postgraduate seats grew by 172.63% from 31,185 to 85,020.
