Twigs snapped underfoot, and sharp stones bit into her soles. Kara bit her lip, the pain a welcome distraction from Daniello's persistent thoughts. She could still hear his voice in her head, his needy words a sick taunt. A twig snapped, and she froze, her breath caught in her throat. She didn't dare turn around, her eyes fixed on the dense foliage ahead. Any moment now, Daniello would appear, his cruel gaze raking over her. "Kara!" The shout echoed through the jungle, and her heart lurched. She started running again, her feet slamming into the stony earth. "Get back here, you little minx! You can't escape me forever!", Daniello's voice called out, drawing closer. Kara gritted her teeth, fear pumping adrenaline through her veins. The thick vines and thorny branches that once offered cover now seemed to wrap around her, trapping her. The thought of surrendering to Daniello's obsessive clutches sent chills down her spine. She burst into a small clearing, the relief short-lived as she saw a figure blocking her path. Her heart skipped a beat as her eyes met Daniello's. She opened her mouth to yell, but no sound came out. "Caught you, Kara..." he said.
