Got fired today. Showed up to work and my key card didnt work at the door. I tried calling my “friends” at work and they kept hanging up. Apparently they were told to ignore any calls or texts from me and to not acknowledge my presence at the building. I only know this bc the nicest person I worked with slipped me that info and said how sorry they were. This place made me miserable and Ive wanted to quit since I started. They had a high turn around rate but I needed the money so I ignored the red flag. In case you’re wondering, they have highly unrealistic expectations and lied about what they were going to pay me. I feel no remorse and its probably for the best. P.S.: I later emailed about why I wasnt notified and they said “oh sorry about that, but your services are no longer needed.” Edit: Since so many are asking, Ill just say its a gun manufacturer in Wisconsin. I have no association with guns or the gun community it was just a paycheck bc I was desperate. This company is full of racists and homophobes and people wayyyy to comfortable with sexual harassment. https://redd.it/18xpcxb @r_antiwork

I thought this was satire. 'People in California are getting more sick leave and can't be fired for using marijuana outside work' https://www.businessinsider.com/california-new-laws-abortion-lgbtq-marijuana-2024-1?r=US&IR=T https://redd.it/18wm5au @r_antiwork

Work feels like a scam We really got the shit end of the stick. It's so fucked that the 40 hour work week was able to support a family whilst one partner stayed at home yet nowadays both partners need to work 40 hours each to make just enough to keep them above the poverty line whilst everything else in their lives suffers (house maintenance, hobbies, social life etc). What the fuck. And were doing this just to make whoever we are working for richer. It's really hard to give a fuck when you are aware of these facts. I struggle to go to work. I feel angry that I am basically struggling to make ends meet and enjoy my life whilst others are rich af and probably living their best life. They are buying our precious time through something called wages. Wages used to be fair but not anymore. We are selling something that is so valuable and precious - our time. And for what? To be fucked from all angles. Unfortunately we are the product and I really hope things change soon because it shouldn't be this way. Life is not supposed to be like this. https://redd.it/18wncr7 @r_antiwork

There is no such thing as 9-5 or a 40 hour workweek The 40 hour workweek is a completely outdated, ancient and arbitrary rule. There is nothing scientific about the 40 hour workweek being the best balance between productivity and personal wellness, it was invented as an improvement by Ford so that his workers could find time to buy his cars. The birth of the 40 hr week itself is rooted in capitalism and consumerism, nothing related to the requirements of the work itself. Let’s also stop talking about the 40 hr workweek as if it is actually a 40 hour workweek because it’s not. You have to spend an incredible amount of time to make it to that 40 hour week. We don’t account for the hours we spend to get ready, commute to work, commute back from work and get ready for home. These alone can take up to an extra 3 hours everyday for some. On top of that the only sliver of « life » that is left for us to live after work has been tainted by the mental and physical exhaustion of having been busy for the previous 10+ hours. So the energy we have left to do anything with our lives is only enough to cook dinner and pass out on the couch. Sometimes we don’t even have that much energy. So I stopped calling it 9-5 or 40 hours/week because this is not the reality. It depends on every person, for some it’s more like 7-23 because all of our day ends up being tainted by a combination of work, wasted time to get ready for work and exhausted time to recover from work. It’s not 40 hours a week, it’s more like 80 hours a week. This is why a complete reform of the unrealistic work standards we have today is necessary. We are wasting our lives and kidding ourselves that there is a 5-9 life after 9-5. https://redd.it/18wjhah @r_antiwork

A colleague has called in sick on the first day back with the reason “not really feeling it yet this year.” Respect. https://redd.it/18wmr6m @r_antiwork

fired for stand up comedy update: REINSTATED WITH ONE YEAR BACK PAY!! The story of me getting fired from an NPR show over my stand up topped this page in last year, Long story short: I was a reporter at a nationally syndicated NPR show produced by WHYY in Philadelphia Executives found my stand up IG https://www.instagram.com/jadslay/ and fired me on the spot with no warning. They called me racist, sexist, every name in the book. They cut off my health insurance the same day despite the fact that I rely on expensive MS drugs to be able to walk and they went so far as to delete every single story I had done over five years to prevent me getting another job. I never apologized, I fought back. They tried to deny my unemployment, sending two vice presidents and two lawyers to the hearing, calling my act all kinds of hateful. I won. They made a judge watch an hour of my stand up and made every hair brained attempt to paint it as racist or hateful and they lost. Her ruling. "Although the employer’s rules regarding outside conduct are quite broad, even considering the content of his act to come within those rules, the obvious theme of his performances (in this record) was social unfairness and hypocrisy rather than discrimination. They were controversial and contained terms certain persons could find offensive, either due to explicit sexual or racial/ethnic nature used for “a cheap laugh.” In context, however, the content was not inconsistent with that of other adult comedians’ and would not be unfamiliar to the mildly sophisticated listener." Months later I attended a series of arbitration hearings, this time represented by SAG AFTRA lawyers, and the company did basically the same thing. They probably spent a good quarter million on lawyers alone and I just got the decision: I'm to be reinstated with full back pay and benefits.  The decision doc is insane, with a judge going through my jokes point by point and even picking the ones he thought were funniest. Got quiet fired I took a week off work, approved but abrupt, to chemically detox from alcohol so I can beging Esketamine treatment. I'm released to return to work on Jan. 3rd. I just opened our scheduling app and it says I have no employer. Before I freaked out, I sent a text to the two managers letting them know I'm cleared for work on the 3rd and would like to speak to them about returning to work. They don't know I know. I'm anxiously awaiting their response(s). Happy New Year! https://redd.it/18wabhn @r_antiwork

Called in sick tomorrow cause I’m not mentally ready to jump right back into reality yet. Being off for the holidays made me realize how much I miss my free time and how much I really hate my job. 🥹 https://redd.it/18wbkdc @r_antiwork

The government needs to step in to control inflation and price gouging on basic needs. Like food- There are multiple brands of cereal that are over $8/box. It’s hard to find bread for less than $4/loaf. I rarely buy meat. Fresh produce is high but frozen veggies are still cheap. I don’t understand what Congress is doing. Maybe because I stopped following the news… It seems like Congress just spends time arguing over the same hot button issues. They need to fix whatever needs to be fixed so that people can buy basic, healthy food. I have a decent job and no kids, and I’m still stressed every time I go grocery shopping. https://redd.it/18wb5ai @r_antiwork
