What differences continue to separate the Wisconsin Synod and the Missouri Synod? 1. The difference concerning the doctrine of church fellowship remains unresolved. Former LCMS president Bohlmann publicly rejected the WELS position. The current president, Al Barry, has also endorsed joint prayer without doctrinal agreement (pp. 83-85). 2. The Missouri Synod continues to practice joint worship with those with whom it is not in doctrinal agreement (p. 83). 3. Unionistic practices by some members of the Missouri Synod, such as open Communion, too often remain undisciplined. 4. The Missouri Synod is divided on the doctrine of church and ministry. Some accept the same doctrine as the Wisconsin Synod, but the public doctrine of the Missouri Synod rejects our position. Although the Missouri Synod does not ordain women as pastors, it does allow them to fill other roles in the church that involve the exercise of authority over men, contrary to Scripture.
