How to Get More Work Done in a Day Than Most People Do in a Week
Vocabulary:
1️⃣ call it a day — Idiom, used to say that it's time to stop working, either at one's job or on a particular task, for the rest of the day.
➖ This package is the last one. Once we get this shipped, we can call it a day.
➖ I'm tired. Let's call it a day.
It's kind of the same thing as "wrap it up". But:
• "wrap it up" means finishing the task.
• "call it a day" means it's over for today, but not that the task is finished.
2️⃣ coincide (with) — /,kəʊɪn'saɪd/, to take place at the same time or to be very similar. And I guess you already familiar with the word “coincidence”.
➖ I timed my holiday to coincide with the children's.
➖ Power failures coincided with the hottest weather.
➖ Our views coincide on a range of subjects.
3️⃣ slump — /slʌmp/, as a verb - to drop or fall; and as a noun - decline.
➖ Car sales have slumped dramatically over the past year.
➖ She slumped into the chair, exhausted.
➖ The recession led to a slump in consumer spending.
➖ I have a significant productivity slump after having a lunch.
4️⃣ hurdle — /'hɜ:rdl/, obstacle.
➖ You have already overcome the first major hurdle by passing the entrance exam.
➖ Lack of investments have been the biggest hurdle to the project's success.
➖ John had his business plan all laid out, but he fell at the first hurdle when the bank refused to grant him a loan.
5️⃣ endorse — /ɪn'dɔ:rs/, publicly approve or support something.
➖ I wonder how many celebrities actually use the products they endorse.
➖ I fully endorse (= agree with) everything he has said.
