He feels ashamed of his appearance because of his thin hands and feet, but he was intelligent and highly experienced, but he does not have the confidence to tell the woman he loves about his feelings. In this poem, the citizen is anonymous to represent all citizens oppressed by a capitalist system. Capitalists look at man as a robot. They do not look at his emotions or psychological states In this poem we have the metaphor “Saint” when the poet compares Saint to good man. We are not free, and we are not happy because the poet criticize the modern age and the modern life the man wasn't happy and wasn't freedom. But he was very employers . he isn't odd man he was social . He was a good worker and popular among his friends. He was in good health and had everything a man needed to talk: a radio, a car and a refrigerator. They believed that if a citizen had these things like a radio, a car and a refrigerator, he was a happy and free man. He was married and had five children. This citizen was exploited in times of war and peace. The street asks: Was he free? Was he happy? The answer: He was not free. This is a ridiculous question because capital does not look at the citizen’s feelings and psychological state. Metaphors Saint = very good man . Liked a drink = very popular.
