Little by little, over then next few months, or next year, start moving to these options. - Use a privacy based web browser. (LibreWolf and/or Brave Browser) - Buy a DeGoogled phone, or DeGoogle one yourself. Use a Linux phone once they're ready. - Buy a computer w/Linux, or install Linux yourself on a Linux compatible computer. - Get a privacy focused email provider. Proton, StartMail, Reagan.com, etc. - Run Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) on both your phone & Linux computer. - Use a non-intrusive secure chat app for "text" messages. Session, Signal, XMPP. - Run a Nextcloud server for your own online ecosystem. It'll give you contacts, calendar, file share, document collaboration, audio/video conference calls, & more. - Use a privacy search engines that don't feed Ad money to the tyrannical big tech. . Droidian Linux has emerged as a new player in the Linux phone arena! Droidian takes the Mobian project and runs it on an Android 9 Linux kernel instead of the mainline Linux kernel that Mobian normally runs on. This is similar to what Ubuntu Touch is doing. The UBPorts installer used to install Ubuntu Touch also has Droidian as an alternative install option for supported phones, as seen in the 2nd image. Running Linux on an Android kernel is great because you can now run "Linux" on Android phones, such a Pixel 3a or a Samsung S9! Many things on Droidian phones don't work quite yet. Mobian Linux definitely runs better on traditional Linux phones, such as the PinePhone, the Librem 5 and the Liberty Phone. Nonetheless, Droidian is a project worth keeping an 👀 on. It comes with - 4 Gig RAM instead of 3 Gig" - 128 Gig Storage instead of 32 Gig - All other specs are basically the same With the specs of a med range smartphone form 10 years ago, and a price of $2,200, you may want to hold off. A new Peer to Peer Swap platform has popped int the last couple of days. It doesn't appear to be open source, and it may be a scam. It could also be a government Psy-Op. You never know these days, unless it is open source, then you have transparency on the project, the code, and who is behind it. ⚡️What Data Do Cars Collect and How To Opt Out? @takebackourtech In this recent piece on Wired, popular cars were ran through a 'Vehicle Privacy Report' which analyzes the terms of service and privacy policy for specific vehicles to give you an idea of the data that is collected. You can submit a VIN number to get your own report here (please read their privacy policy as well!): https://vehicleprivacyreport.com/ The company behind the tool: https://privacy4cars.com/ Important points: - Manufacturer collects data like (identifiers, biometrics, location, synced phone data, users) - Manufacturers sell data (affiliates, service providers, insurancce firms, government, and data brokers) - Manufacturers will provide data to government or law enforcement when there's a legal request I've used the data privacy documents from each manufacturer to make a short summary - please note that this collection may only occur in specific cases (using different features) and may not apply to every car model. Analysis of modern cars (2022): - Generally Collected: Name, Address, DL #, Phone #, Email - Toyota - vehicle location, odometer readings, voice records (using voice commands or calling the response center), diagnostics, some models use facial recognition, unknown data collection from phone. Data transmission can be turned off on the privacy hub - Honda - collects SSN, DL#, location, fuel levels, tire pressure, battery charge, trip log, airbag, search content ,call history, voice commands, driver behavior. Some data collection can be opted out of through Honda's apps - Ford - owner information, vehicle data,, tire pressure, charging information, drive data, seat-belt, precise location / direction, speed, media analytics + voice recognition - Chevorlet - Owner identifiers, battery igition, window data, location, route history, speed, camera images and sensor data, security alerts, Wi-Fi data usage, home energy usage (charging / discharging at home) - Jeep & Ram - owner information, SSN, DL #, dates and times of use, speed, trip details, routes, cruiser control, refueling activity, battery levels, images fro mcameras, face and fingerprint (if enrolled) I always knew cars were data traps but now have a better understanding of all of the different things these companies can collect and use against you if requested by law enforcement. This was just a quick summary, and more deep dives are needed, we did not cover what data is collected from your phone (ever wonder what happens when you sync contacts?). . Beyond Compare is an excellent compare tool that can run in Linux. It is not FOSS, but of all the compare tools available, this on has the most features, and handles heavy workloads the best. Feaatures: - Compares files, both binary, and text, and it has amazing side-by-side text comparison features. - Compare and sync folders and files - Detailed image compare tool, down to the last pixel. There are other better photo compare tools, but if you want to compare down to the pixel, this is the tool You can download the .deb file from 👉Scooter Software, which will set up the PPA during install. A couple other good open-source file/folder compare tools for Linux are Meld and Kompare. #Beyond_Compare

. BitWarden is a password manager that you can self-host. However, if you want all the features on your self-hosted instance, you must get a license, which means it is not a true FOSS project. Recently, in an act of aggression against Christianity, BitWarden, has fired a software VP for putting "Assigned by God" in his profile entry. You can read about it 👉 here. KeePassXC and KeePassDX are a password management duo that let you sync your passwords between your DeGoogled cell phone and your Linux computers, using a USB cable, without sending your password info over the Internet. Nextcloud can also sync your KeePass vault between devices, if you are OK with your pass vault being on the cloud. 2. Now you don't have to. There is a website where you can go to see if a movie is loaded with nonsense or not. Skip the movies filled with leftist propaganda, and go support the ones the movies that have the common sense not to promote extreme foolishness. . OpenStreetMap.org makes it very easy to edit and contribute to their project by editing the world map in a web browser. Their website has a quick easy tutorial that steps you through the basics in just a few minutes, and the editing interface is very intuitive and easy to use. You can do things like add and edit any home address, business address, business details, building shapes, as well as add or edit current roads. These changes will show up within a a few days on everything from openstreetmap.org, to the OsmAnd and Organic Maps navigation apps. (if you have live updates turned on in OsmAnd) To contribute or edit OpenStreetMap, all you have to do is: 1. Create an account at openstreetmap.org 2. Zoom into the area you want to edit 3. . Nextcloud Talk is an instant messaging app that you can run using your own Nextcloud server for complete privacy. Unfortunately the Nextcloud Talk developers refuse to integrate an open source "push" notification solution for their app, such as UnifiedPush, and will only integrate Google's push notifications into the app, which means you must use Google Play Services, and hence losing some privacy. Fortunately Andrewerr from Poland has put together a solution for us. That solution is NextcloudServices, which is an app that "polls" your Nextcloud server every 10 minutes (by default) and will make a notification sound if someone texts you, or make your phone ring if someone is calling you through Nextcloud Talk. The app also displays other notifications from your server, such as when Nextcloud Tasks, or Nextcloud Deck cards come due. If you are admin, you will get notifications when updates becomes available, and so on. #NextCloudServices_Poll_Notificaitons

. Krita is a great paint, graphics, and photo editing program that can be used to replace some of the functionality of both Photoshop and Illustrator. Krita has both Vector layers and Raster layers, allowing you to combine the two into one program. The "Help" menu has a link to the Krita Handbook, which you can download in EPub format, or browse online. Unfortunately, the KritaLime stable PPA is no longer available. The only PPA we can find is the unstable "Daily" build. Most people will want the stable Appimage or Flatpak, as discussed in this 👉 post. To install the Krita Daily build on Debian based systems:

Many great alternatives to Rasp Pi's popping up all over the place these days. Here are a few manufacturers I discovered trying to find something that would run a Nextcloud server. With the price of Raspberry Pis going out the roof, it makes more sense to buy an Intel based mini computer that has more power, and runs Linux better, plus you may very well remove the China supply chain issue.
