Self Appraisal One winter morning, a little boy came across a telephone booth. He found a carton nearby to climb on so he could reach the phone and make a call. A nearby observer curiously listened to the boy’s conversation. The little boy spoke into the phone, “Madam, I am poor, can you give me the job of cutting in your grass?” The woman on the other end of the phone line replied, “Sorry, I already have someone who cuts my lawn.” The little boy offered to cut her lawn for half the price of what she is paying now. The woman replied, “I’m already satisfied with the person who cuts my lawn. He is doing a good job.” With perseverance, the little boy said, “Madam, I’ll even sweep your sidewalk, so you will have the prettiest lawn on the block.” The woman declined. When the call was over, the observer walked over to the boy and said, “Son… I like your attitude and your positive spirit and would like to offer you a job.” The boy politely declined. The man said, “But you were pleading for a job when you were talking to the lady on the phone.” The little boy replied, “No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to.” The Moral This inspiring story encourages seeking feedback to prepare oneself to work constructively on self improvement . This feedback will help you take corrective action before trouble arises. Getting feedback can also help boost your self confidence help . Doing a self-appraisal by looking inward can help you find your weaknesses so you can work hard to improve them. If you do a good job, you can become irreplaceable.

Socrates Stories - Power of Conscience Once Greek's famous philosopher Socrates was talking to his disciples. At same time, an astrologer arrived there and claimed that he could tell a person's character by looking at the face. Then Astrologer looked at Socrates and said, "Shape of nostrils tell that this person have anger issue.." Listening to this Socrates disciples got angry but Socrates calmed them down and asked astrologer to continue. Then astrologer said, "Shape of the head reveals that he is definitely a greedy person. The composition of chin says that he is a whimsical person. Shape of his lips and teeth tell that this person always incite people to rebel against the authority." Even after listening to all this, Socrates rewarded astrologer and sent him. Disciples were surprised at this. They asked him reason to reward astrologer even when whatever he said was only negative things about him. Socrates calmed them down and said, "Whatever astrologer said about me is true. I accept that i have all those negative points in me and that's why i rewarded him. But that astrologer had made a mistake... That is he said all negative things but didn't stressed over power of my conscience. He didn't said that with power of my conscience i keep control over all these negative things of my nature." Moral: No one is this world is perfect. Everyone lacks one or other thing but still if we can control our nature and use power of our conscience then we can deal with any difficult situation easily.

Sharpen your ‘axe’ There was a newly joined woodcutter and the king was really impressed by his dedication towards his work. Out of encouragement, he started giving his best in work and cut 18 trees in the first month and the king was glad. The next month he put in the same effort but could cut only 15 trees. And the third month, he still tried his best but could cut only 12 trees. The king visited him the third month and talked about his decrease in productivity. He explained that he might have lost his strength or got too old to do the work. The king asked him “when was the last time you sharpened your ax?” To the surprise, he has not even done it once in the last three months. That was the only reason why he couldn’t cut more trees. Moral: It is good that you put in a lot of effort and hard work to work towards your goals. But you should balance your life priorities and invest time with your family and save some time to relax which would boost up your productivity. These are just a few among the many motivational stories that guide students to work hard on many aspects of life and grow successful. Such inspirational stories can help students to keep moral values in life despite whatever life offers them

Shake off problems A man and his donkey were on the way to grazing while the donkey fell into a huge pit. The man was shaken and tried hard to pull off his favorite donkey up to the ground. Despite his strenuous attempts, he failed to bring the donkey back. But he can’t leave the donkey to starve and die with pain for days. So he decided to bury him alive and make his death smoother. So he started pouring soil over the donkey in the pit. When he poured the soil, the donkey felt the load and shakes it off and he steps on it. He does the same every time when the soil was poured on his body. In the end, he reached the ground level and easily walked away to graze in the green pastures Moral: Don’t choose to live with your problem. Just shake off your problems and stand on it and step up in life after learning from them. Every bad experience is a new learning. So get the positives out of it and work towards your goals

The Elephant Rope  A man was walking nearby to a group of elephants that was halted by a small rope tied to their front leg. He was amazed by the fact that the huge elephants are not even making an attempt to break the rope and set themselves free. He saw an elephant trainer standing beside them and he expressed his puzzled state of mind. The trainer said “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.” Moral: It is the false belief of the elephants that denied their freedom for life time. Likewise, many people are not trying to work towards success in their life just because they failed once before. So keep on trying and don’t get tied up with some false beliefs of failure.

जो चाहोगे सो पाओगे एक साधु घाट किनारे अपना डेरा डाले हुए था. वहाँ वह धुनी रमा कर दिन भर बैठा रहता और बीच-बीच में ऊँची आवाज़ में चिल्लाता, “जो चाहोगे सो पाओगे!” उस रास्ते से गुजरने वाले लोग उसे पागल समझते थे. वे उसकी बात सुनकर अनुसना कर देते और जो सुनते, वे उस पर हँसते थे. एक दिन एक बेरोजगार युवक उस रास्ते से गुजर रहा था. साधु की चिल्लाने की आवाज़ उसके कानों में भी पड़ी – “जो चाहोगे सो पाओगे!” “जो चाहोगे सो पाओगे!”. ये वाक्य सुनकर वह युवक साधु के पास आ गया और उससे पूछने लगा, “बाबा! आप बहुत देर से जो चाहोगे सो पाओगे  चिल्ला रहे हो. क्या आप सच में मुझे वो दे सकते हो, जो मैं पाना चाहता हूँ?” साधु बोला, “हाँ बेटा, लेकिन पहले तुम मुझे ये बताओ कि तुम पाना क्या चाहते हो?” “बाबा! मैं चाहता हूँ कि एक दिन मैं हीरों का बहुत बड़ा व्यापारी बनूँ. क्या आप मेरी ये इच्छा पूरी कर सकते हैं?” युवक बोला. “बिल्कुल बेटा! मैं तुम्हें एक हीरा और एक मोती देता हूँ, उससे तुम जितने चाहे हीरे-मोती बना लेना.” साधु बोला. साधु की बात सुनकर युवक की आँखों में आशा की ज्योति चमक उठी. फिर साधु ने उसे अपनी दोनों हथेलियाँ आगे बढ़ाने को कहा. युवक ने अपनी हथेलियाँ साधु के सामने कर दी. साधु ने पहले उसकी एक हथेली पर अपना हाथ रखा और बोला, “बेटा, ये इस दुनिया का सबसे अनमोल हीरा है. इसे ‘समय’ कहते हैं. इसे जोर से अपनी मुठ्ठी में जकड़ लो. इसके द्वारा तुम जितने चाहे उतने हीरे बना सकते हो. इसे कभी अपने हाथ से निकलने मत देना.” फिर साधु ने अपना दूसरा हाथ युवक की दूसरी हथेली पर रखकर कहा, “बेटा, ये दुनिया का सबसे कीमती मोती है. इसे ‘धैर्य’ कहते हैं. जब किसी कार्य में समय लगाने के बाद भी वांछित परिणाम प्राप्त ना हो, तो इस धैर्य नामक मोती को धारण कर लेना. यदि यह मोती तुम्हारे पास है, तो तुम दुनिया में जो चाहो, वो हासिल कर सकते हो.” युवक ने ध्यान से साधु की बात सुनी और उन्हें धन्यवाद कर वहाँ से चल पड़ा. उसे सफ़लता प्राप्ति के दो गुरुमंत्र मिल गए थे. उसने निश्चय किया कि वह कभी अपना समय व्यर्थ नहीं गंवायेगा और सदा धैर्य से काम लेगा. कुछ समय बाद उसने हीरे के एक बड़े व्यापारी के यहाँ काम करना प्रारंभ किया. कुछ वर्षों तक वह दिल लगाकर व्यवसाय का हर गुर सीखता रहा और एक दिन अपनी मेहनत और लगन से अपना सपना साकार करते हुए हीरे का बहुत बड़ा व्यापारी बना. सीख लक्ष्य प्राप्ति के लिए सदा ‘समय’ और ‘धैर्य’ नाम के हीरे-मोती अपने साथ रखें. अपना समय कभी व्यर्थ ना जाने दें और कठिन समय  में धैर्य का दामन ना छोड़ें. सफ़लता अवश्य प्राप्त होगी.
