An Arizona toddler was found alive and breathing inside a Gilbert hospital morgue hours after being declared dead following a near-drowning incident. Police reports state officers repeatedly observed signs of life, including audible breathing and gasping, and one nurse reported detecting a pulse before the child was pronounced dead. An officer wrote that the doctor dismissed those concerns before declaring the child deceased. The toddler was later discovered breathing by the medical examiner's transport team, flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital, and survived but suffered brain damage requiring lifelong care.
