The industry is reaching a turning point where the walls between Apple and Google are finally beginning to crumble. Why does this matter? A brief history 📜 For a long time, the world of wireless file sharing felt like isolated islands. - AirDrop 📱 : Introduced in 2011, it became the "gold standard" for convenience—tap a button, select a nearby device, and the file is sent. But it worked only within the Apple ecosystem. - Quick Share 🔍 : Android spent years trying to find a perfect solution, from Android Beam to Nearby Share, eventually landing on Quick Share. It was great, but it couldn't "see" Apple devices. Users were effectively locked into their OS ecosystem. If you had an Android and your friend had an iPhone, sending a file directly was impossible. Now, the tech giants are finally realizing that the future is open. Where do we stand now? ⚙️ We are currently in a phase of active observation. Cross-platform P2P sharing is still in its "early adoption" phase—we can clearly see this with the recent integrations on devices like the Pixel 10, where communication between Android and external ecosystems is finally moving from concept to reality. At this stage, public API documentation is still evolving, and many of the handshaking protocols between iOS and Android remain non-standardized. We are fully aware that the final version of these tools might function quite differently from our current projections.Moreover, the new architecture we are currently transitioning to is specifically designed to accommodate such innovations. Essentially, we are already laying the groundwork that will allow us to integrate this P2P technology as soon as it becomes mainstream. What does this mean for Smart Timetable? 💡 Once native P2P sharing becomes a standard, we plan to bring it to your favorite app: - Offline Sharing: You’ll be able to share your schedule and tasks with a friend instantly, even without an internet connection. Just be nearby, and it’s done. - Hybrid Architecture: We aren’t ditching the cloud—it’s vital for your backups—but P2P will allow us to offload our servers and make peer-to-peer transfers faster than ever. - Enhanced Privacy: By using native protocols, we can ensure data transfers are secure, device-to-device, and free from third-party intermediaries.
