#sample The pie charts show the primary reasons for choosing a certain university based in the United Kingdom in 1987 and 2007. Overall, the preponderance of students opted for this university because it offered suitable degree courses in both years, albeit with the smallest change. It is also clear that the location of the university, which was the least significant factor in 1987, became the second major incentive for students in 2007. Examining the factors that became more important first, more than a third of students (35%) chose the university in question for its curriculum in 1987, a figure which slightly rose to 37% in 2007. Another reason that saw a modest increase was quality of teaching, growing from 15% to 18%. The third factor for choosing this university whose importance surged was its proximity to students’ parental home, with the percentage rising from just 10% to 22%. By contrast, the remaining reasons became less crucial. Quality of resources, which was the second main reason for choosing this university in 1987, saw a slight fall from 21% to 17%. The biggest decrease, however, was observed in the “good sports and social activities” category: its figure plummeted from initial 19% to a chart low of 6%.

No matter how much I post about the importance of general English and the unimportance of IELTS, students are so reluctant to accept my words. In fact, it seems some students don’t even know what general English means. Here’s the harsh truth: IELTS courses are pretty much useless (with the exception of Writing). There’s nothing you can learn in IELTS courses which you wouldn’t learn in general English courses. Even in our speaking marathons, we help students to ‘unlearn’ whatever BS strategies they were taught or learned by themselves. As soon as students switch from studying English to ‘studying’ IELTS, they stop using amazing words like ‘beautiful’, ‘nice’, and ‘great’. Instead, they start using words like ‘picturesque’, ‘breathtaking’, and ‘fascinating’, thinking these words will get them a high score in IELTS. Boy are they so wrong! As someone who got a 9.0 in Speaking twice, back-to-back, and a 9.0 overall, I can assure you, there is no such thing as IELTS speaking. There is speaking and there are mistakes. I used the word ‘great’ 4 or 5 times in Part 1 without trying to use ‘fancy’ synonyms like ‘fabulous’ or ‘top-notch’. I used the word ‘boring’ 3 or 4 times without using words like ‘mundane’ or ‘lackluster’. If anything, these ‘C1 - C2’ words will lower your score because you’re not speaking like a native speaker. I’m telling you, if only ‘IELTS instructors’ stopped teaching ‘IELTS speaking’, everyone would be getting a much higher score in the exam. A couple of months ago, I did a mock exam with this student who was taking IELTS classes in another center. When I asked him, “Where are you from?”, his response dropped my jaw: “To be honest, I’m from Andijan.” Now, it’s not the fault of the student, obviously; the guy just didn’t know any better. But you know what? His teacher also didn’t know any better. Most ‘IELTS Instructors’ don’t know any better. The solution to this saddening situation is two-fold: On the one hand, experienced IELTS instructors should organize trainings, paid or free, for instructors with less expertise. Until when are we going to let students waste their time by learning useless techniques such as skimming and scanning, instead of working on their comprehension? Until when are we going to let students learn stupid, memorized introductions for Task 1 and Task 2? Someone needs to do something about it. On the other hand, students themselves should fix their attitude. Instead of obsessing with IELTS, they should take a step back and focus on their general English. Ask your learning center if they offer any Intermediate, Upper-intermediate, or Advanced classes. Believe me, it takes only 1 - 2 months to prepare for IELTS; the rest boils down to your general English. I know not many people will read the whole post from cover to cover. But if you did, read it again. 😂 And stop wasting your time, money, and effort by joining stupid IELTS courses when you can’t even use Present Simple correctly. Yours with love, @ozodbek_sk

Everyone wants to be happy. However, the definition of happiness remains elusive. This essay will discuss why it is so and offer some ways of pursuing happiness. For some reasons the concept of happiness is still difficult to define. This might be mainly because people attach different values to their pursuit of happiness. Some see it in material wealth, while others perceive happiness in fame and power, for instance. Moreover, our need for happiness could be insatiable, which means we keep wanting more and more and just take our present moments of happiness for granted. As a result, we may never understand what happiness is and continue chasing our own tails. Therefore, happiness may not be easily defined. However, there are certain universal values that can make people happy. One of them is certainly wealth. Many people believe that money brings happiness, enabling people to own their mostly desired possessions, such as luxury houses, cars and accessories. Hence, people keep longing for more and more wealth in search of true happiness. Another possibly stronger factor is fame. Celebrities are always seen with big chuckles on their faces, a very strong external sign of happiness for common people. They seem free from worries. Everybody admires them, and they hold a very high social status and enjoy the best privileges of life. This motivates people, in particular youngsters, to chase after fame, promising an ultimate happiness. The major contributor to people's happiness, in my view, is quality relationships, though. There are numerous cases of the rich and famous leading miserable lives, which proves that these two cannot always guarantee happiness. However, people surrounded with healthy relationships are said to lead truly happy and healthy lives. This was backed by a long-lasting Harvard study on human happiness. The research involved studying a group of children until their final years of life and concluded that being in good relationships is the precursor to happiness. In conclusion, even though there is no framework of happiness, in the majority of cases people who have a certain amount of wealth, fame and good social lives are considered to be happy.
