Pixel devices will get the option to choose the vibration pattern of ringtones and notifications. In the upcoming March Pixel Drop, the Pixel Sounds system app will get a new 'Vibrations' tab. Here you'll be able to choose the way your phone vibrates separately for ringtones and notifications. There are 11 new patterns to choose from. You can listen to them in the attached videos. This feature will be present in the Sounds app update v3.2, but it also requires an updated Pixel System Service component. So, all you have to do is wait for the system update in March. Thanks to @Eraminel01 for providing the APKs, materials and testing the feature. 🔗 Android Authority 😎 Google News | En

Android 16 will ignore app orientation restrictions on large-screen devices. Until now, some app developers have relied on screen orientation restrictions, causing the app to simply not take up the entire screen area on large display devices. Android 16 for apps with Target SDK 36 will ignore the attributes and APIs used to restrict the orientation and resizability of the app interface. This change only affects devices with large screens (i.e. dp > 600) such as foldables, tablets and desktop devices including Chromebooks. Therefore, this change will not affect phones, flips and external screens of foldable devices. Also, this change does not apply to games. Users will have the option to choose to use the default behavior set by the app, or ignore these restrictions. In API 36 (Android 16), app developers can enable an attribute to avoid this system behavior and buy themselves time to adapt the UI, but this attribute will disappear in the next API 37. 🔗 Full article at Android Developers #Android16 😎 Google News | En

The Linux Terminal app is finally working in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 2! As I first reported, this is an all-in-one app that downloads, configures, runs, and interfaces with an instance of Debian running a virtual machine. It uses the Android Virtualization Framework APIs that Google introduced in Android 13 but updated in Android 15. Right now, there's not much you can do with this since hardware acceleration support and support for running graphical environments is missing, but both of these things are being worked on.

Android 15 QPR2 Beta 2: The Bluetooth QS-tile menu now shows Fast Pair devices icons. One of the shortcomings of the new window introduced in Android 14 QPR2 was the lack of unique icons for paired Fast Pair devices. Instead, it displayed regular monochrome icons, causing even the Pixel Watch to have a headphone icon. Thankfully, Google has decided to fix this in Android 15 QPR2 beta 2. And it may have happened because of my report on issue tracker that I wrote at the end of October. #Android15 😎 Google News | En

Pixel 10 will be equipped with a MediaTek modem. Recently, quite a lot of info about the upcoming Google Tensor G5 and G6 processors has been leaked online, from which we know that they will be manufactured using TSMC's process node. However, the most important question for users was what modem the upcoming smartphones will be equipped with. As Android Authority found out, the upcoming Pixel 10 will be powered by the yet-to-be-released MediaTek T900 modem. As of now, the only thing known about it is that it is based on MediaTek's “M85” generation IP modem, and that it will support at least the 17th release of the 5G 3GPP specification. It is also known that Google considered using Qualcomm's Snapdragon X75 modem, which the iPhone 16 is also equipped with, but eventually settled on MediaTek's solution. 😎 Google News | En

Google is working on a motion sickness assistance service called 'Motion Cues'. [Video] This feature will display translucent dots on the edges of the screen that move in rhythm with the car movement [video]. In this way these dots will alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness. “Motion Cues” will be able to be enabled through the quick settings tile. There is also an option to automatically turn on when driving is detected (and automatically turn off after stopping). Google plans to roll out this feature via Google Play Services update, but when that will happen is still unknown. It is currently not available to users. Android Authority was the first to report the development of such a feature. 😎 Google News | En
