In the long run, it's far easier to not think about pleasure than to indulge in it.
Not just better. Easier.
Now, before I explain what I just said, let's make something clear.
When I say pleasure, I am referring to the temptations that you are failing to control or dismiss.
And that's also the explanation.
When you indulge in pleasure or try to resist it, there's a lot of pain. You're going against your desires. Instead of going downstream, you're going upstream.
If you indulge, you have the pain or regret of indulging. Because you're running away from your goals.
If you resist, then as I just said, you're going against your desires.
But if you change your desires, it gets much easier.
No resistance. No regret. Absolute blissfulness.
We often think that pleasure makes us happy. Rather, it makes us the most miserable.
What brings happiness is listening to your desires, and your desires take you closer to your goals.
In other words, change your desires (or change your goals... if that's what you want).
How to change your desires?
There are many ways.
First, understand how you want to feel. Why you want to feel it. And what will help you feel it.
Stop lying to yourself about how certain things like pleasure make you feel. Spend more time with people you want to be like. Constantly think about what you should do. Write about it.
There are countless ways. This week's newsletter will be all about it. You can sign up here: https://newsletter.basedlibrary.com/

It takes 1 bold move to break the chain of fear that suffocates you in every area of life. And 1 fear to form the chains. Because your life is all interconnected. You cannot dissect and live it.

Action should always precede knowledge.
It sounds counter-intuitive, or even stupid, but brings the most progress.
Action gives direction to the knowledge you seek. With the right analysis, action shows you what's not working for you... so you can seek out to fix the specific problem.
Without action, the answers you seek will be multi-directional... pulling you from all side. You'll be stuck.
So, act on whatever you know. Even if you fail to act, you at least have an identified problem - your inability to act. You can find solutions for the same.
But don't go out seeking knowledge in all directions (unless you have the inner curiosity for it).
But hold on. There's a nuance to this that people don't talk about.
Sometimes you have to seek knowledge in multiple directions. Because often you don't know what might help you. You never know what might interest. Moreover, just studying about one thing makes you boring af.
So, set out time in your day where you travel in the unknown. But for the rest of your day, find a direction.

PS: I am working on a Notion template that will help you reach your goals.
It will be available to the newsletter readers tomorrow, but I might send it here before.

Podcast Notes #2
This time I have decided to share 4 of my favourite quotes from the podcast.
Here's the podcast link: https://youtu.be/patyFzFQidU
1) Failure under pessimism confirms your fears. Failure under optimism feels like an aberration.
2) Focus on winning, not on not losing. When you focus on not losing, you take the easy road.
3) You know you don’t fear losing anymore when victory comes with joy, not with relief.
4) It’s not that depressed people don’t have a reason to get out of bed. It’s that you don’t have a reason to get out of bed and so you are depressed.
Take time to re-read and understand them.

Let's do an AMA
Last time we did it, the comment section got clogged and I missed some questions.
So, this time I'll answer your questions by writing posts on this channel.
Please mention your complete question at once. If you have any follow ups, answer under the post that answers your question.

A long time back I shared a concept which revolves around using the "game" to escape the "game".
It clicked me again and makes a lot more sense.
The foundations of the concept is laid in the concept of the "matrix"
Basically, if you want to be free from the matrix, first you have to climb it. This means having financial, time, and location freedom. Without going into too many details, you cannot be free from the matrix if you are constantly struggling to meet your basic needs.
But you have to be aware of the matrix so you can escape it when the time is right. Else, you are forever trapped in hustling to make money.
Now, I am not rich by any means to validate this concept. But you can use this concept everywhere.
Let's say you want to quit an unhealthy habit. You cannot leave it at once. So you increase friction. You make it difficult for yourself to indulge in that habit. This can be as simple as not storing the food you crave. Or keeping your phone in black and white mode.
...all those small things that undoubtedly help.
But in the long run, you have to escape those cravings. By using those methods, you are making it difficult to indulge in the habit, but you still have the craving.
So, change what you want to want.
If you are always focused on instant pleasure, you'll ultimately settle with instant pleasure. You won't stick to your healthy habits. Yes, you'll be able to reduce your time spent on pleasure. Yes, you'll be able to get your work done. But there is another dimension to life - it's called peace. If you want peace, you have to match your every day actions with your desires.
But moving back, you first need to play the game before you escape the game.
You can use the same principle to grow a business. Do what works until you are not restricted by what works. Or to build habits. Follow the frameworks until you don't need them.
For this to work, you always have to aware of what lies outside the game. Else, you'll always be trapped inside.
464
Even the person who is stuck with instant gratification like abusing drugs, alcohol, porn, Netflix, etc, without realizing how dangerous his actions are, has the same problem.
He believes he is better abled than others to control himself. Or that he has more time than others. And when he decides to quit, he believes he should be able to do it at once.
It's always the sense of superiority... Never being able to accept that you are inferior.

Way Of The Inferior Man
Yesterday, for the first time, I was watching a video by Hamza. For those of you who have never heard of him, he's big in the self improvement space.
He said something that aligns with my philosophy:
"You're a piece of shit"
Everyone thinks they are superior. And this is why they fail.
For reference, think of the idea behind my last newsletter on Willpower.
Most people lose their willpower because they want their willpower to be like the ultra rich millionaires they see on YouTube. And they want it from day 1. So they commit everything from day 1, and they fail.
Your mind just isn't strong enough to work like that from day 1. And if it was strong enough, you wouldn't be stuck where you are. Sounds stupid, but most people never solve this puzzle.
You have to take your mind from being weak to being strong in a systemized manner.
You can also see this problem with many red pill guys. They blame all their problems on women, while it was their inferiority that messed up their relationship.
And this is why you have to adopt the way of the inferior man. Accept your inferiority. Accept that you're a piece of shit. And then ask yourself:
"What's the best way I can improve myself"
That's when you'll find your answers.
