| 20 | The first table gives information about the value of imported goods from China to Australia and vice versa between 1998 and 2004, while the second one shows what types of products were imported from China in 2003 and 2004.
Overall, both importing from and exporting to China became more pronounced during the period shown, with the value of goods exported to Australia exhibiting higher numbers than that for importing from Australia. Noticeably, the value of imports of all types of products shown from China followed upward trends, except for Clothes, whose figure remained unchanged. It is also clear that the revenue generated by the import of telecommunication equipment surpassed the figures for other goods by 2004.
Looking at the value of imported and exported goods, both figures witnessed continuous growth during the timespan given. In 1998, there was a discrepancy of 10 billion dollars between them, with the dominance of the former (20$ billion). The worth of importing from China doubled, 40 billion dollars, in 2004, while that of exporting to China from Australia increased dramatically, reaching a staggering 30$ billion in the end.
As for the revenue generated by five types of goods, which were imported from China to Australia, computers and furniture exhibited similar levels of income (around 5$ billion), and were the main revenue generating products in 2003. The amount of money, which came from importing computers, rose minimally to 6$ billion in 2004. Similarly, the figure for furniture mirrored the growth pattern of computers. Clothes, on the other hand, were the only goods, whose revenue stayed the same both in 2003 and 2004, at 4$ billion. Imports of both toy/Sports and telecommunication increased by $5 billion, from 2 and 3 billion dollars in 2003 to 7 and 8 billion dollars in 2004, respectively.
