Research/Write Up:
Firstly, you might be wondering why I’ve put such a high stake for this bet. Simply put, it has a 100% success rate from a Wrexham and Leverkusen point of view. That combined with other factors means we have to stake confidently here.
Wrexham will definitely be taking the cup seriously. They had a superb run last season and will be desperate for another big 3rd round tie in front of the sky cameras. At home, I’d be amazed if there’s a team with a better scoring record than Wrexham. They’ve scored an outrageous 33 goals in their 10 home games, which is an average of 3.3 goals per game. They’ve scored the 2+ needed in all 10 games (6,2,2,3,3,3,2,5,4,3) and I can’t see how they don’t carry on that trend against a team 2 leagues below them.
Yeovil might be top of the National League South, but they’ll still surely be absolutely no match for Wrexham at the Racecourse. Wrexham went with a full strength side in the last round and I expect pretty much the same. Even with a few changes, they should be way too strong, they have excellent squad depth. Yeovil lost 4-1 at Welling last weekend which is hardly ideal preparation.
Leverkusen are going to push Bayern all the way this season. Xabi Alonso has got them playing some really delightful stuff and they’ve not only scored 2 or more goals in every home game, they’ve actually scored 2+ goals in EVERY game so far (3,4,3,2,2,3,3,4,2,5,3,3). Incredible consistency. At home they’ve scored: 4,2,3,4,5,3 which is an average of 3.5 goals per game, so we can feel very confident they’ll get just 2.
We can feel especially confident because they play a Dortmund side who are struggling, especially defensively. Dortmund might be 4th but they are miles behind Leverkusen and Bayern. Dortmund have conceded 19 goals in their 12 league games and a lot of those against weak sides. They’ve shipped: 2,2,4,3 in their last 4 league matches, and in their 5 away games this season, they have conceded: 2,3,1,2,1. Not a clean sheet in sight, they even conceded at lowly Bochum. They conceded 2 in the opening half hour at home to M’gladbach last weekend; defend like that against Leverkusen and it’ll be a painful afternoon. | 107 |

This bet has almost a 100% previous success rate from a Wrexham and Chesterfield point of view and it’s as safe a double is ever going to be!
Wrexham have scored an incredible 27 goals in their 9 home matches this season. Therefore, it doesn’t come as a surprise that they’ve scored the 2 or more goals in EVERY home game this season (2,2,3,3,3,2,5,4,3). That’s a success ratio of 100% and an average of 3 goals per game.
They host Morecambe who are not doing too badly in 9th place but there’s quite a gulf in class between the top 4 and the rest. Home advantage seems huge in League 2 and Morecambe’s away record alludes to this. Morecambe have lost 5/8 away games and have conceded the 2 or more goals in 5/8 games (3,1,2,1,1,2,2,3). As you can see, they’ve kept 0 clean sheets, and Wrexham is not the place to go if you can’t keep goals out. What’s also noticeable is Morecambe have had a pretty kind run of away matches so far, playing only 1 top 5 team (where they lost 3-0 at Mansfield), even recently conceding 3 and 2 to Grimsby (4th bottom) and Sutton (bottom) respectively. If they’re conceding to teams in and around the relegation zone, we’ve got to be super confident they’ll concede 2+ against the top home scorers in the entire league.
Likewise, Chesterfield have also scored 27 goals in their 9 home matches this season. They’ve scored 2 or more goals in 8/9 matches and all of their last 7 consecutive home matches (4,4,2,3,3,3,3,1,4). The last time they failed to score 2 or more at home was way back on August 19th!
They host Eastleigh who are an average, mid-table side. They’re conceding way too many goals, keeping 0 clean sheets in the last 13 games! Away from home they’ve kept just 1 clean sheet at a poor Dorking side. They’ve conceded 2 or more goals in 5/9 away matches, including 3 of the last 4 games (1,3,3,2,1,0,2,2,1). Like Morecambe, Eastleigh have had a kind run of away fixtures. They’ve recently conceded 2 at Maidenhead (18th), Hartlepool (15th) and Halifax (7th). None of those sides are anywhere near the quality of runaway leaders, Chesterfield. Chesterfield should do their usual and hit 2 or more goals on Saturday. | 142 |

Stockport are the form team in England - possibly Europe! They have now won 12 consecutive league games in a row and 15 of their last 16 league and cup matches. They’ve scored 2 or more goals in 13 of their last 14 league matches and in 15 of their last 17 overall games (2,0,4,5,2,2,3,3,3,1,2,3,5,2,2,3,2)! With fire power like that, we simply have to bet on them every week until bookies completely cut their odds.
I sometimes feel a bit uneasy about betting on away teams but not with Stockport. They’ve scored 2 or more in their last 8 consecutive away matches (4,2,3,3,3,2,2,2) at an average of 2.63 goals per game. Unbelievable scoring form.
They travel to Newport who are really struggling. They are in the midst of a massive injury crisis with 7-8 first team players all out. They only had 5 players on the bench last Saturday, including an 18 year old and two 17 year old youth academy players. Stockport are a League 2 side in name only and have players who could easily do well in higher divisions. I fear for Newport on Saturday. Newport have conceded 2 or more goals in 7 of their last 9 matches. They’ve conceded 34 goals in their 18 league matches and have recently conceded 3,2 and 4 at home to Walsall, Harrogate and Bradford respectively. If they’re conceding 9 goals to teams in 16th, 14th and 17th, what chance have they against the best attack in the league?! We’ve got a bit of a gem with this one, let’s hope the lads get the job done. | 126 |
