1:*My Best Friend’s First Christmas Holiday*
Last Christmas, my best friend spent his first Christmas holiday in a very special way that I will never forget. He traveled to visit his grandmother who lives in the countryside, far away from the city. It was his first time spending Christmas there, and he was very excited.
When he arrived, the whole family was waiting to welcome him with warm hugs and smiles. The house was beautifully decorated with colorful lights, Christmas trees, and ornaments. Everyone was happy and full of joy.
The best part of his holiday was the Christmas dinner. His grandmother cooked many delicious traditional dishes that filled the house with a wonderful aroma. There was roasted chicken, jollof rice, fried plantains, and a special Christmas cake made from rich fruits and nuts. My friend said it was the tastiest meal he had ever eaten.
During the holiday, they also sang Christmas carols, exchanged gifts, and shared stories by the fireplace. The time spent with family made his holiday very memorable. He learned about his roots, family traditions, and how important it is to be together during special occasions.

(i) Oral tradition
(ii) Folktales
(iii) Myths
(iv) Legends
(v) Proverbs
(vi) Songs and poems
(1b)
(PICK FOUR ONLY)
(i) Distortion of facts: Oral tradition is passed down by word of mouth, which often leads to exaggeration, omission, or alteration of facts over time, making it unreliable for accurate historical reconstruction.
(ii) Lack of precise dating: Oral sources do not usually provide exact dates or chronological order of events, making it difficult for historians to construct a detailed and accurate timeline of historical developments.
(iii) Influence of bias and personal opinion: Storytellers may insert their personal beliefs, opinions, or cultural biases into the narratives, thus misrepresenting actual events or emphasizing certain aspects over others.
(iv) Loss of information over time: As older generations die without passing down all their knowledge, important historical details can be permanently lost, leading to incomplete accounts of the past.
(v) Inconsistency between versions: Different versions of the same story often exist within or between communities, making it challenging to determine which version is closer to the historical truth.
(vi) Dependence on memory: Oral tradition relies solely on human memory, which is fallible and prone to forgetting, misremembering, or unintentionally mixing up events and characters.
(vii) Lack of verifiability: Since oral traditions are not documented or recorded, it becomes extremely difficult to verify the authenticity or accuracy of the information being conveyed.

(PICK ANY FOUR)
(i) Evangelism: Christian missionaries came to Nigeria to spread the gospel and convert Nigerians to Christianity. Their major aim was to win souls for Christ and expand the Christian faith.
(ii) Abolition of Slave Trade: They sought to replace the transatlantic slave trade with legitimate trade and Christian values. Missionaries believed Christianity could reform the African society and discourage the slave trade.
(iii) Promotion of Western Education: Missionaries established schools to teach Africans how to read and write, especially so they could read the Bible. This helped increase literacy and introduced formal education.
(iv) Civilizing Mission: They believed it was their duty to civilize Africans by introducing European culture, dressing, hygiene, and manners, which they considered more advanced.
(v) Medical Outreach: Many missionaries were also medical practitioners. They built hospitals and clinics to care for the sick, using health services as a means to attract converts.
(vi) Support for Freed Slaves: Missionaries came to assist freed slaves who returned from Europe and the America. They provided spiritual guidance, education, and a new religious identity through Christianity.
