In Victoria “No Jab No PLAY” goes even further and prevents parents from placing their children in childcare and kindergarten. Is that fair? I think it's financial coercion, and like so many government policies, it punishes those who can least afford it.

The message from the government is simple...Vaccinate your children with everything the government says or lose access to family payments.
For some families, the amount at stake can run into tens of thousands of dollars a year.
I think that’s completely wrong.
Whether or not you vaccinate your child should be your decision as a parent, not a decision the government pressures you into by tying it to your family’s finances.
We tried to repeal these laws and give that decision back to parents.

| 15 |  Tomorrow I will take the No Jab No Pay repeal bill to a vote in the Senate.
The current law is particularly harsh. In simple terms, it says to parents, inject your children according to the government schedule, or we will cut your family payments.
For some families, that can mean losing up to $35,000 a year.
In a free society, I do not believe that is acceptable.
As a crossbench Senator, I only get one real opportunity each year to bring a bill forward for debate and I chose this one.
