☄️ NEW report on the Assange hearing out now! Small Victory in the Julian Assange Extradition Case: Permission to Appeal Granted

The main point or question that was addressed during the hearing was if the assurance provided by the United States on Mr. Assange's ability to raise and seek before a US court that he should receive First Amendment protections, eliminates the risk that he would NOT be prejudice at trial by reason of his nationality.

Typically, the United States Constitutional protections only apply to US citizens or people within US jurisdiction. This raises a point that the extradition of Mr. Assange to the United States would be in violation of section 81(b) of the UK Extradition Act of 2003, which bars extradition if it appears the person may be prejudiced at trial based on gender, religion, race, political opinion and nationality. 20 May 2024. Tokyo. Once again, events surrounding Japanese monetary policy are a key focus of world financial markets. The Japanese yen, having recorded several 34-year lows against the US dollar this year already, dropped sharply again in late April. Then, on 29 April 2024 the fall turned into a collapse, within a few hours marking down the Japanese currency by several yen, to a low of Y160.04/$. This was not far from the prior weakest point more than 37 years ago in April 1990 (at Y160.33/$).

☄️ BREAKING: The judges grant Mr. Assange the permission to appeal on grounds 4 and 5 (related to discrimination based on his nationality and the First Amendment) on all counts. This is my best understanding at the time.

Court is still adjourned, but we can all see the main court room from the video feed. The entire front row of seats is just about completely empty. That space could have been filled by us journalists who are in a separate court room reporting from a video screen.

Defense lawyer Edward Fitzgerald addressed the judges and stated that they should allow for permission to appeal given that there are too many issues of fact that remain unanswered and too many issues at law that are being introduced for the first time by the prosecution that remain unresolved. The court is adjourned and will return in 10-15 minutes. We could not understand exactly what the judges said before the adjournment.
