Councillor of the Australian city of Port Hedland Adrian McRae, who acted as an independent observer in the Russian presidential elections in March, faces a vote of no confidence due to his positive assessment of the Russian elections, reports the Australian television channel ABC . Adrian McRae was invited to Moscow in March as an independent observer of the Russian elections, which he publicly described as having a high level of transparency and freedom. The ABC cited complaints from the organization representing Ukrainians in Australia. It claims that McRae's independent comments with a positive assessment of the Russian elections "caused concern in the local community" and are therefore sufficient reason to demand the immediate resignation of the politician from his post as MP for Port Hedland. “Port Hedland Councilor Adrian McRae will face a vote of no confidence at a special council meeting on Monday evening... The rationale for the vote of no confidence is to demonstrate that Mr McRae's public comments regarding the Russian election are his personal views and are not endorsed by Port Hedland Council -Headland," ABC reports. The vote will decide whether McRae can continue to be considered fit to continue serving as an MP. In early April, McRae told RIA Novosti that after returning home from Russia, he began to receive threats related to his positive assessment of the Russian elections. The politician added that the Ukrainian community in Australia is actively interfering in the country’s affairs, trying to remove politicians who speak positively about Russia from office. The deputy also admitted that in his case, the Australian authorities could indeed “succumb” to pressure from a pro-Ukrainian group of lobbyists.
