You cannot avoid people in your life who test your patience. There will always be a relative whose words sting. A colleague who quietly works to get you in trouble. A friend who drains you with endless negativity. A stranger whose Islamophobic behaviour leaves you frustrated - in the street, the supermarket, or online. And many of us become consumed by these people. We replay conversations in our heads, lose sleep over them, and allow them to steal the tranquillity Allah gifted us. Islam teaches us something liberating: People are responsible for their actions. You are responsible for your response. Allah says: ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ فَإِذَا الَّذِي بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ عَدَاوَةٌ كَأَنَّهُ وَلِيٌّ حَمِيمٌ "Repel evil by that which is better - and thereupon the one between you and whom there is enmity will become as though he were a devoted friend." (Surah Fussilat 41:34) And He says: وَالْكَاظِمِينَ الْغَيْظَ وَالْعَافِينَ عَنِ النَّاسِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ "And those who restrain anger and pardon people - and Allah loves the doers of good." (Surah Aal-'Imran 3:134) One of the forms of freedom is realising that not every disrespectful comment deserves a reply, not every accusation deserves a defence, and not every argument deserves your participation. The Prophet ﷺ said: "I guarantee a house in the outskirts of Paradise for the one who leaves arguing, even if he is right." (Sunan Abi Dawud 4800) A few things worth reflecting on: - You always have a choice. You cannot choose how others behave, but you can always choose how you respond. Patience is a choice. Silence is a choice. Walking away is a choice. - Not everything is about you. Sometimes people's harshness is a reflection of their own struggles, sins, or pain - not a measure of your worth before Allah. - You do not have to enter every argument. Winning will not always earn you respect; but protecting your heart, preserving your manners, and guarding your relationship with Allah will. - A calm response is strength. Sometimes the most powerful reply is simply acknowledging what was said without allowing it to consume you. - You cannot guide every heart. Guidance belongs to Allah alone. Your responsibility is sincere advice, good character, and Du'a. You are not accountable for changing people. One of the mistakes we make is expecting people to live up to noble Islamic standards. And when they fall short, those expectations become the source of our disappointment. But when your heart becomes attached to Allah rather than to people's approval, gratitude, or fairness... you become free. Ibrahim ibn Adham رحمه الله said: "Whoever knows himself becomes occupied with correcting himself. And whoever knows his Lord becomes occupied with his Lord rather than with anything else." (Hilyat al-Awliya', 8/15) Your peace was not meant to be controlled by people's moods. It was meant to be anchored to your Lord. Do not let someone else's character determine your worship, your manners, or your inner peace. Respond in the way that pleases Allah, leave their affair to Allah, and continue your journey toward Him. The believer's strength is not that no one can upset him. Feeling Burnt Out While Seeking Knowledge? You remember how it felt at the beginning. The excitement before each lesson. The consistency that came easier than you expected. The eagerness that surprised even you. Then the momentum shifted. Lessons piled up. Guilt replaced motivation. And without any single dramatic moment, the journey you once loved began to feel like a weight you were carrying alone. If that sounds familiar, you are not alone. And you have not failed. Here are seven ways to overcome burnout and get back on track: 1. Renew your intention The moment seeking knowledge becomes about completing a course, collecting certificates, or earning Ijazat, it starts to feel hollow. That is not what you began this for. Study to draw closer to Allah. Let that be the only finish line. "Actions are judged by intentions." (Sahih al-Bukhari 1) 2. Choose consistency over intensity A student who studies thirty minutes every day for five years will cover far more ground than one who studies five hours a day for six months and then burns out entirely. You do not need to study for hours. You need to keep showing up. "The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are consistent, even if they are few." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6464) 3. Let knowledge lead to worship Knowledge is not the destination. Worship is. What you learn should show up in your Salah, your recitation of Qur'an, your Dhikr, and your sincerity in obedience to Allah. If it isn't changing how you stand before Allah, something needs to be revisited. Al-Fudayl ibn 'Iyad رحمه الله said: "The scholar remains ignorant concerning what he knows until he acts upon it. When he acts upon it, he becomes a scholar." (Iqtida' al-'Ilm al-'Amal, 43) 4. Apply before you move on Stop racing through books. A small amount of knowledge acted upon is worth more than a large amount left sitting in your notes. Sufyan ath-Thawri رحمه الله said: "Knowledge calls out to action. If it responds, it remains. Otherwise, it departs." (Jami' Bayan al-'Ilm wa Fadlih, 1274) 5. Rest without guilt Seeking knowledge is a lifelong journey, which means the body and mind that carry you through it need to be looked after. Sleep when you need to. Eat well. Take breaks. None of this contradicts the path. It is what makes the path sustainable. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Your body has a right over you." (Sahih al-Bukhari 5199) 6. Stop comparing your journey A part-time student raising kids, working to provide for his family, and studying in whatever hours remain is not behind the full-time student at an Islamic university. They are simply on different roads, and both roads can lead to the same high ranks in the sight of Allah. Stay in your own lane. Strive with what you have. And keep asking Allah for Tawfeeq. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Be keen on what benefits you, seek Allah's help, and do not give up." (Sahih Muslim 2664) 7. Remember what you are walking toward You are not trying to finish a curriculum. You are seeking knowledge until the day you meet Allah, and hoping that when that day comes, you are still on the path. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever treads a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise." (Sahih Muslim 2699) Every lesson is a step. Every step is recorded. And when he saw that the accusation against him was false, he turned to Allah, the One who knows what is hidden within the hearts. He supplicated against the false claim, and Allah revealed the truth, the woman who accused him later lost her sight and passed away. This was not a man seeking revenge. This was a man who feared injustice. A man who understood that the rights of people are not matters to be taken lightly. A man who knew that Allah’s justice would eventually reach every soul. This is what made the Companions رضي الله عنهم different. They lived with an awareness that Allah was always watching. They feared wronging others even in matters that seemed small. They worried about hidden sins that nobody else would ever discover. Because they understood a reality that we often forget: You can explain yourself to people. You can convince people. You can protect your reputation in front of people. But you can never hide from Allah. May Allah purify our hearts, protect us from ظلم, grant us sincere knowledge, and make us among those who fear Him in private and public. Āmeen. Team AMAU www.amauacademy.com

What Happens When Your Reputation Is Put on Trial? A person can spend years building a reputation, earning trust, and carefully guarding the way people perceive them. Yet sometimes, it only takes a single accusation to disturb the peace they spent years building. A few words spoken against them, a misunderstanding that grows, or rumour that reaches people before the truth ever has a chance, and suddenly, the heart becomes restless. The same questions begin to echo in the mind, again and again: "How could they say this about me?" "Do they not know the truth?" "After everything I have done, how could they think this of me?" These thoughts begin to weigh heavily. Because an accusation does not only challenge a person’s reputation, it reveals what their heart is truly attached to. Are we more concerned with how people see us? Or with how Allah sees us? More than fourteen centuries ago, a moment unfolded that would reveal the true state of a man’s heart. A moment that would challenge the emotions, honour, and reputation of anyone who experienced it. But the person facing this test was not an ordinary man. He was a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ, a man whose greatness was not only seen in what people knew about him, but in what Allah knew about him. It was Saʿīd ibn Zayd رضي الله عنه. A man from the ten companions whom the Prophet ﷺ gave glad tidings of Paradise. A man who embraced Islam in its earliest days, when faith was not a path to comfort, recognition, or status, but a path filled with sacrifice and hardship. He stood with the Prophet ﷺ when the believers were few, when Muslims were weak, and when holding firmly to the truth meant standing against the world around them. Saʿīd رضي الله عنه did not spend his life trying to convince people of his sincerity. His life itself was the evidence. His sacrifices spoke before his words ever did. Yet, even a man of such virtue was tested. One day, his name was mentioned in a way that would trouble the heart of any human being. He was accused of taking someone’s land unjustly. The accusation came from a woman named Arwā bint Uways. Pause and imagine that moment. A Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A man whose faith was witnessed through years of sacrifice. A man whose place in Paradise had already been promised. And yet, someone stood before him with a claim: "You have wronged me." For many people, this would become a battle of reputation. The first instinct would be to defend themselves. To remind others of their sacrifices. To say: "How could you accuse me after everything I have done?" "Do you not know who I am?" But Saʿīd's رضي الله عنه heart was not occupied with how people saw him. His gaze was fixed on something far greater. He was thinking about the day when he would stand before the One who knows every hidden secret, every intention, and every action. For Saʿīd رضي الله عنه, the greatest fear was never losing the respect of people. The greatest fear was standing before Allah while carrying an injustice he had committed. When the accusation was brought against him, Saʿīd رضي الله عنه did not respond with arrogance or allow anger to take control. Instead, he swore by Allah that he had never wrongfully taken anything from her land. Because to him, this was not simply a disagreement between two people. It was a matter that would one day be brought before the Lord of the heavens and the earth. He then mentioned the warning of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: “Whoever takes a span of land unjustly, it will be encircled around his neck from the seven earths on the Day of Resurrection.” (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 3198) A span of land. Something that may appear insignificant to the eyes of people. A small piece of earth. A boundary that could be measured, argued over, and eventually forgotten. But Saʿīd رضي الله عنه did not see it as small. Because he was not measuring the matter by its size in this world. He was measuring it by its weight when he would stand before Allah.

You begged Allah for it. Do not thank Him for it by disobeying Him. You spent nights making Du‘a. “O Allah, give me this job.” “O Allah, bless me with a righteous spouse.” “O Allah, bless us with a child.” “O Allah, let me pass this exam.” “O Allah, bring me out of this hardship.” Then Allah answered you. And what happened after that? The wedding is filled with music and free mixing, and the heart barely feels disturbed. The brother who begged Allah for a job begins compromising his beard just to fit in at work. The sister has slowly dropped the hijab to please her colleagues. The business grows, but the prayers start getting pushed back while the profit keeps swelling. Riba contract suddenly feels like a necessity and music has become part of your marketing. The hardship is lifted, and the eyes that once cried in Sujood begin looking at what Allah has forbidden. The very blessing you begged Allah for slowly becomes the reason you drift away from Him. Allah says: وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ “And when your Lord proclaimed: ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you. But if you deny, indeed My punishment is severe.’” (Surah Ibrahim, 14:7) Gratitude is not only saying, “Alhamdulillah.” True gratitude is to obey the One who gave you the blessing. ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه said: “Indeed, blessings are bound to gratitude, and gratitude is bound to increase. The two are inseparably linked, and Allah’s increase will never cease until the servant ceases to be grateful.” (Shu‘ab al-Iman lil-Bayhaqi, 4532) The Salaf understood that a blessing is a test, just as hardship is a test. Hardship tests whether you will remain patient. A blessing tests whether you will remain grateful. So when Allah gave them what they had asked for, they increased in worship. Not in heedlessness. When Allah gives you what you prayed for: - Feel grateful to Him in your heart, thank Him with your tongue, and also with your actions. - Make a prostration of thankfulness (Sajdah ash-Shukr). - Give something in charity. - Use the blessing in a way that pleases Him. Let it bring you closer to Allah, not slowly pull you away. The greatest way to celebrate a blessing is not with a party. It is with obedience. Do not let the answer to your Du‘a become the reason for your sins. The blessing you prayed for should increase your Sujood, your gratitude, your charity, your Istighfar and your closeness to Allah. Every time you open the Mushaf or think about your Hifdh goals, you remember the people who memorised more. Every Islamic class you attend, the progress of those in advanced levels bothers you. The revision sessions, tests and exams remind you how much more your peers seem to know. Slowly, the joy of seeking knowledge turns into a race that leaves you exhausted and frustrated. You begin to wonder whether Allah gave others His Tawfeeq and withheld it from you, and maybe as a result of that, you fall behind. But stop for a moment. Who told you that Allah measures His servants by how quickly they memorise? By how much they know? By whether they are ahead of everyone else? Allah says: وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَكُمْ خَلَائِفَ الْأَرْضِ وَرَفَعَ بَعْضَكُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ دَرَجَاتٍ لِّيَبْلُوَكُمْ فِي مَا آتَاكُمْ "And it is He who has made you successors upon the earth and has raised some of you above others in degrees of rank - that He may try you through what He has given you." (Surah al-An'am 6:165) Not every servant was given the same memory. Nor does every servant carry the same responsibilities, struggles, or circumstances. The differences between you and others were placed by Allah Himself - not as a verdict, but as a test. Perhaps the race you've been running is one Allah never told you to enter. His command was: فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ "So have Taqwa of Allah as much as you are able." (Surah at-Taghabun 64:16) And His measure has always been different: إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ "Indeed, the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the one with the most Taqwa." (Surah al-Hujurat 49:13) You have made pages, lessons, and speed the measure of your worth. The Salaf measured themselves by sincerity, Taqwa, and acting upon what they knew. Allah will not ask how quickly you finished memorising His Book. He may ask how much of it you lived by. The greatest tragedy is not being slower than others. The greatest tragedy is allowing Shaytan to convince you that because you are not as fast or as sharp as others, you might as well leave the path entirely. Every Ayah you struggle to memorise is known to Allah. Every page you revise is seen by Him. Every effort you make to understand His Speech is recorded with Him. Every attempt to live by them is rewarded by Him. After all... Is He not Ash-Shakoor? As long as you keep returning to the Qur'an and to your Deen, you have not failed. Nobody tells you this: You already have enough to begin seeking Islamic knowledge. Not after you memorise the Qur'an, become fluent in Arabic, find the perfect teacher, and wait for life to slow down. That day isn't coming. And you know it. Shaytan wants to convince you that you need to be "ready." That you just need to wait a little longer, and then the time and circumstances will be perfect, and you will truly shine in seeking knowledge. Islam teaches something different: that sincerity and consistency are what matter, not perfect conditions. Allah says: فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ "So have Taqwa of Allah as much as you are able." (Surah At-Taghabun 64:16) Not as much as the person next to you. Not as much as you wish you could. As much as you are able. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are consistent, even if they are few." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6464) Here is an example of what consistency looks like in practice: Suppose you study just three Ahadith a day - with some explanation, a few basic points about the narrator, and some benefits and rulings from each one. That's roughly an hour of your day. By the end of three months, you will have studied 270 Ahadith. If you make it six months, that's 546 Ahadith. Do it for one whole year, and you'll have studied 1,095 Ahadith! With just one hour of study each day! That is the power of consistency. That is what Allah loves. Many of the Salaf started with very little. But they protected what little they had, and Allah opened doors for them. Ibn al-Mubarak رحمه الله said: "The beginning of knowledge is intention, then attentive listening, then understanding, then memorisation, then acting upon it, then spreading it." (Jami' Bayan al-'Ilm wa Fadlih, 758) Intention first. Not mastery. Not fluency. Not the perfect plan. The perfect study plan may not come anytime soon. The perfect circumstances may never arrive. But the chance to take one sincere step toward Allah is in front of you right now - and it may not be there by the end of today. You don't need to know everything before you start. You need to start, by Allah's permission. That's it. So take your first step. Learn what you can. Act upon what you learn.
