🚨 🚨 BREAKING: ASUU MEETS IN ABUJA OVER POSSIBLE STRIKE ACTION
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is currently holding a crucial meeting in Abuja, where the union is expected to deliberate on the growing concerns surrounding the implementation of its agreement with the Federal Government and the welfare of university lecturers.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of a recent warning issued by the union, which cautioned that the window for industrial peace in Nigerian universities is “closing fast” due to what it described as slow implementation, selective compliance and unresolved welfare issues.
Among the issues reportedly raising concern within the union are salary arrears, promotion arrears, withheld salaries, IPPIS-related salary shortfalls, pension remittance challenges and outstanding payments linked to the 2022 industrial action.
ASUU has also expressed concern over the implementation of the December 2025 agreement with the Federal Government, particularly the delay in putting the necessary implementation structures in place.
The ongoing meeting in Abuja is therefore being closely watched, as the union deliberates on the next line of action and whether the unresolved issues could warrant industrial action.
⚠️ However, no official decision to embark on a strike has been announced at the time of this report.
Students and members of the university community are advised to remain calm and await an official communiqué from ASUU before drawing conclusions.

Following the examination update released by the Committee of Deans on Friday, 7 August 2026, some students have sought clarification regarding the postponement of Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) and the rescheduling of examinations between 13 and 15 August.
Clarification on Computer-Based Examinations (CBE)
The University's directive means that only Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) have been postponed. Paper-and-pen examinations are not affected and will commence on Monday, 10 August 2026, as earlier scheduled.
The decision to shift CBE "until all facilities are ready" indicates that the University is yet to complete the necessary preparations for computer-based examinations. Although the specific reasons were not stated, But you will recall in a Kilonshele Media recent update that the new ICT EXPERIENCE CENTRE will be used for this exams, and thanks to the management, more systems are being procured and set up for easy and comfortable examination experience for students, this postponement may intended to ensure that all required facilities are fully operational before the examinations commence.
Students offering CBE courses are therefore advised to remain calm and await an official announcement on the new examination dates.

The University also announced that all examinations scheduled between Thursday, 13 August and Saturday, 15 August 2026, will be rescheduled to accommodate the Ekiti State Government recruitment examination.
"All examinations" includes both paper exams and CBE
This adjustment is not due to any academic issue but is intended to prevent a clash with the state government's recruitment exercise, which may require the use of university facilities or examination venues.
Students whose examinations fall within these dates should expect a revised timetable from the University and should continue their preparations pending further communication.
What Students Should Note
- Paper-and-pen examinations will begin on Monday, 10 August 2026, as scheduled.

The Management of Ekiti State University (EKSU), through the Committee of Deans, has announced key adjustments to the Second Semester Examination schedule.
According to a statement signed by the Dean of Student Affairs (DSA), Prof. Deji Fasuyi, after a meeting held on Friday, 7th August 2026, the University resolved as follows:
- Paper-and-pen examinations will commence on Monday, 10th August 2026, as earlier scheduled.
- Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) have been postponed until all required facilities are fully ready. A new date will be communicated by the University in due course.
- All examinations originally scheduled between Thursday, 13th August and Saturday, 15th August 2026, have been rescheduled to accommodate the Ekiti State Government recruitment examination. A revised timetable is expected to be released.
Students are advised to continue preparing for their examinations, monitor official University communication channels for further updates, and share this information with colleagues.

Ekiti Court Jails Fraudster Two Years for Car Auction Fraud
Justice Lekan Ogunmoye of the Ekiti State High Court, sitting in Ado-Ekiti, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, convicted and sentenced one Bethel Onyedikachi Ukachukwu to two years imprisonment for car auction fraud.
The convict was arraigned by the Ekiti Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on three -count amended charges bordering on obtaining by false pretence
Specifically, he collected the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00) by false pretence from Mr. Kayode Aina Samuel under the pretext that he will get a bid for an auctioned car for him with Nigeria Customs Service
Count One reads: “That you, Bethel Onyekachi Ukachukwu, sometimes in 15th April 2026 at Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State within the jurisdiction of this Honorable court with intent to defraud and obtain the total sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only (N500,000.00) from one Kayode Aina Samuel under the pretext that you will use the same money to bid for an auction car for him with Nigeria Customs Service which pretext you knew to be false which goes contrary to Section (1) (b) and 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006.
Count two reads: “That Bethel Onyekachi Ukachukwu on or about the 15th day of April 2026 at Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State within the jurisdiction of this Honorable court, did dishonestly convert to your own use the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only (N500,000.00) being the property of Mr. Kayode Aina Samuel which was entrusted to you for the specific purpose of purchasing a motor vehicle on his behalf and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 295 (2)(f) and punishable under section 302 (1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021”
Following the defendant's guilty plea, prosecution counsel, Saidu Yusuf, called Prosecution Witness 1, PW1, Emmanuel Onuminya and tendered all the exhibits and evidence against the defendant.
The court admitted the exhibits as evidence. Thereafter, the prosecution counsel prayed the court to convict the defendant accordingly.
In the same vein, counsel to the defendant, T.A. Salami, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy. He informed the court that the convict was remorseful for his actions and had made restitution to the petitioner.
Thereafter, Justice Ogunmoye convicted and sentenced the defendant to two years imprisonment with an option of fine in the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦150,000.00).
The convict's journey to the Correctional facility began when he falsely presented himself as a Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army and fraudulently obtained the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000.00) from the petitioner under a false pretence of securing a vehicle for him.
However, he neither delivered the vehicle nor refunded the money. He has since been remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre.
