Otswal
Part I
The idea is not to approach the myth as a pimply scholar, nor as a forensic scientist, but to tune, through it, to the "wave of life which comes from the gods", to the primordial Aryan soul.
Do you want to know how we do it? - When a Gothi comments on a myth, he usually uses a method called Otswal, or "the fire system under the ice", which is the most fascinating exercise in the world.
The old Germanic word Otswal means "Divine", and, more precisely, "Divine Authority". Whoever observes the rules of Otswal can claim Authority in the study. These rules are invariably taught by means of the following tale :
There were, in the Hyperborean ages, three young and beautiful princesses of Thule, named Ottilia, Sunniva and Alfhilde. These noble young girls, who were sisters, liked to get together to talk about Old Things.
Ottilia was the youngest and most sensual of the three. She had raven's wing black hair, "the calm of the grave and the fever of summer nights." She always spoke first, and told a Myth.
Sunniva, the younger, flamboyant redhead, was the most cultured, the most perceptive, and the most talkative. She analyzed, one by one, the symbols contained in this Myth.
Alfhilde was a radiant blonde. She was also the wisest of the three sisters. She had, like all blondes, a temperament "of fire under the ice" - and, in fact, ended the debate with a speech in two stages: a part "of ice" (Iss), where she coldly stated what the Elders had said of the subject in question - and a part of "fire" (Hyrr), where she decoded, in a low voice, the occult meaning, the magical secret hidden in the story ...
The three princesses are the three stages of the commentary: we decline the levels of meaning of the myth - Ottilia, the literal meaning, Sunniva, the allusive, or symbolic meaning, Alfhilde, the meaning revealed by exegesis (Iss) and the mystical meaning , esoteric or secret (Hyrr) - It is not very difficult to understand that they also represent the three forces, and their "speeches" the four Elements (Othilia, Earth - Sunniva, Air - Alfhilde, Water [= Ice] and Fire). The Fifth Element does not appear - "for Wotan alone knows the Ultimate Sense of the myth", Ottilia would say - which Alfhilde would translate by: "a Mystery is not something incomprehensible, but something that cannot be understood. never finishes deepening ”.
So, technically: "doing Ottilia" is saying the myth as one should tell it to a child - or even: in a direct, prosaic way, as a point of history or a news item. Sunniva is adding meaning, finding out not what the myth says, but what it means. Alfhilde is to delve into the Teachings that came before us, to cause the secret arcane to spring forth - just as the tree plunges its roots into the underground depths so that it can raise its branches to the sky.
Note that there is Otswal, Divine Authority, only if the three parts are linked together, if they are consecutive, connected. This is indicated to us by the word Otswal itself, formed from the first syllables of each of the three first names (Ot, Su, Al). Note also that the three sisters all have the same rank - the society of our Fathers does not admit of birthright - which is a way of saying that their speeches are, in their respective plans, just as true, as just , each equally correct, even when they seem to contradict each other.
In short, it is successively being a child, a philosopher, a fundamentalist and a magus.
