AASHVAST stands for Assessment and Analysis of Electronic Systems Hardware for Vulnerabilities and Security Threats.
Firmware is a specialized type of software permanently or semi-permanently embedded into a hardware device to provide low-level control and basic operational instructions.
It also examines the software that operates these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) – to identify and eliminate firmware-level vulnerabilities.
The idea behind establishing these labs, a first of its kind, was to neutralise the common threats of enemy interference in Indian drones, preventing them from performing their designated tasks in a contested area

KEDARNATH, 2013: In June, Uttarakhand received an unusually high amount of rainfall, leading to the melting of the Chorabari glacier and the Mandakini river overflowing. The floods affected large parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Western Nepal, caus-ing massive flash floods and landslides. Nearly 6,000 people were presumed dead.
CHAMOLI, 2021: A large glacier broke away and set off a flood, leading to surging waters in the Rishiganga river in Uttarakhand. Over 200 people were reported dead.
SIKKIM, 2023: A glacial lake (large bodies of water that sit in front of, on top of, or beneath a melting glacier) situated in northwest Sikkim at 17,000 ft burst due to incessant rains. It led to the release of water in downstream areas and the deaths of at least 55 people.
DHARALI, 2025: The topography of the region (elevation as high as 6,900 metres above mean sea level), combined with con-tinuous rainfall over a few days, triggered mudslides, debris slides and flash floods.
NEPAL 2026 :
Devastating flooding in Nepal’s Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river has claimed over 350 lives, highlighting the Himalayan region's vulnerability to disasters.

It was most likely triggered by a rock and ice avalanche, result of a large block of glacier in the upper reaches of the Bhotekashi river (the Jower side is also called the Trishuli) falling off though there was no heavy rainfall incident recorded in the area, so that factor is largely ruled out. | 46 |
