Labour Codes • India has 4 Labour Codes replacing 29 central labour laws. • Labour is a subject in Concurrent List (List III, Seventh Schedule). • National Floor Wage will be fixed by Central Government under Code on Wages, 2019. • Normal working hours fixed at 8 hours/day and 48 hours/week. • Social Security Code covers gig workers and unorganised workers. • Minimum wage formula based on 15th Indian Labour Conference (1957) and Reptakos Brett case (1991) was dropped from final rules. • Wage payment to contract workers mandated through bank transfer/electronic mode only. • Contractors may face blacklisting for delayed wage payment.
