Project "Everyday Paganism" Painting 02 Prompt: Grandfather and Son go Fishing with Faithful Companion. Time: 30+ hours Medium: Oil-on-Digital Well, herewith the next painting of the abovementioned project of Hyperborean Radio. So, as the title states, I've painted a rather complex scene of a grandfather and son going fishing within an environment of my choice. Now, as per the previous painting, I chose a Scandinavian setting due to my heritage, reflecting the majestic mountains of the north, as well as the tranquility of the river snaking its way through the dense wilderness. One particular rule is that the painting must reflect the now, rather than 200 years ago. Therefore, you'll notice a few modern objects embedded within the painting to reflect the artifacts of our day to day life as it is today. I drew inspiration from Norwegian artists Hans Gude and Hans Dahl to create this painting. Hi everyone, Thank you for the all the wonderful messages; the support has been tremendous. 😁 I've removed the previous post as I only intended it to be up for a day. But thank you once more. After thinking about it, I've decided to resume painting, as I have a lot to do. I'll upload painting 02 of "Everyday Paganism" some time soon I've made a tentative start on this one. I think it's going to look epic, once I figure out the direction I want to take. 🐺 Æthelwulf 🐺

This is a heartfelt message to say my dad passed away peacefully at 5 o' clock this morning. I'm okay! I know he is now with his forebears in the hall of Sessrumnir, under the watchful eye of Freyr. He will be rejoicing and feasting with his family, as well as reuniting with his brother Ken, who sadly left this world 31 years ago. He was a warrior and a soldier. He was a descendant of the proud Svear of ancient Scandinavia. The gods will look after him for all eternity. R.I.P dad! As a result, I'll be suspending all paintings until such time I'm ready to pick up my pen.

Vættir is believed to be the broad term for spirits across Scandinavia. Whilst they may be used specifically, they are also categories. Although the following names are Scandinavian, this cultural phenomena is not exclusive to Scandinavia but across continental Europe. Landvættir = Land Spirits Fjallvættir = Mountain Spirits (picture 01) Sjóvættir = Sea Spirits (picture 02) Skogvættir = Forest Spirits (picture 03) Vatnavættir = Guardians of the specific waters Húsvættir = House Spirits (picture 04) Art by John Bauer.
