HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is the standard markup language for creating web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser. It consists of a series of elements or tags that tell the browser how to display content. HTML elements are represented by tags such as <p> for paragraphs, <a> for links and <img> for images. These tags are enclosed in angle brackets and usually come in pairs with an opening tag and a closing tag such as <p> and </p>. The content between the opening and closing tags is what gets displayed on the page. In addition to basic text formatting elements like <p>, <h1>-<h6> for headings and <em> for emphasis, HTML also provides a wide range of other elements for structuring content. For example, you can use <ul> and <li> to create unordered lists or <table>, <tr>, <th> and <td> to create tables. Here’s an example of some basic HTML code that includes some of these additional elements: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>My Web Page</title> </head> <body> <h1>My Web Page</h1> <p>This is some text on my web page.</p> <ul> <li>List item 1</li> <li>List item 2</li> <li>List item 3</li> </ul> <table> <tr><th>Name</th><th>Age</th></tr> <tr><td>Alice</td><td>30</td></tr> <tr><td>Bob</td><td>40</td></tr> </table> </body> </html> In this example, we have an HTML file with some basic elements such as <!DOCTYPE html>, <html>, <head>, <title> and <body>. Within the body element we have an h1 element which represents a top-level heading, a p element which represents a paragraph, an ul element which represents an unordered list with three li elements representing list items and a table element representing a table with two rows (tr) each containing two cells (td) with data. When this code is rendered by a web browser it will display a page with a top-level heading that reads “My Web Page” followed by a paragraph of text that reads “This is some text on my web page.” Below that there will be an unordered list with three items followed by a table with two rows containing data.

CSS Borders: A Guide to the Different Types and Their Uses CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is a powerful tool that web developers and designers use to control the look and feel of web pages. One of the key features of CSS is the ability to add borders to HTML elements. Borders provide structure and style to a page, and can be used in a variety of ways to enhance the design. In this article, we will explore the different types of CSS borders and their uses. 1. Solid Borders Solid borders are the most basic type of CSS border. They consist of a single, continuous line that surrounds an HTML element. Solid borders are best used for simple, clean designs, or to add a subtle separation between elements. Here's an example of a solid border: div { border: 2px solid blue; } 2. Dotted Borders Dotted borders consist of a series of small dots that surround an HTML element. They are best used for light, decorative borders, and can add a playful touch to a design. Here's an example of a dotted border: div { border: 2px dotted blue; } 3. Dashed Borders Dashed borders consist of a series of dashes that surround an HTML element. They are similar to dotted borders, but the dashes are longer and more pronounced. Dashed borders are best used for borders that need to be more visible, such as borders between sections of content. Here's an example of a dashed border: div { border: 2px dashed blue; } 4. Double Borders Double borders consist of two parallel lines that surround an HTML element. They provide a thicker border than a solid border, and are best used for borders that need to be more pronounced. Here's an example of a double border: div { border: 2px double blue; } 5. Groove, Ridge, Inset, and Outset Borders Groove, ridge, inset, and outset borders are more complex border styles that provide a three-dimensional effect. Groove borders have a recessed look, while ridge borders have a raised look. Inset borders appear to be pressed into the page, while outset borders appear to be popping out of the page. These border styles can be used to add depth and interest to a design. Here's an example of a groove border: div { border: 2px groove blue; } In conclusion, CSS borders provide a way to add structure and style to web pages. By using different types of borders, you can enhance the design and provide a better user experience. Experiment with the different types of borders to find the right fit for your project. @html_css_works #css
