Journalist Eva Schweitzer wrote about how the elite in the United States were closely aligned with the Nazis in her 2004 book Amerika und der Holocaust (Droemer/Knaur, 400 pages). From the first page of the foreword:
”Most Americans believe that they have always stood on the side of the anti-fascists. But that is not true. In reality, America’s industrial elite served both the anti-fascists and the fascists. The media downplayed the Holocaust, and the Nazis received financial and ideological support from the United States.”

The Western world likes to believe—and convince itself—that it learned from the illegal Iraq War that such a war could never be repeated, that it would recognize if something similar were about to happen again, and that it should not be possible for such an event to occur so easily a second time.
However, this is precisely what happened in Libya, where the entire Western world accepted a series of falsehoods and constructed an image of the situation that was based on fantasy. This narrative filled the democratic populations of the West—who, according to the text, had failed to learn a proper lesson from the Iraq War—with strong emotions and a willingness to accept that several Western countries participated in what the text describes as an illegal and conspiratorial war against the Anglo-American Empire’s enemy and Africa’s hero, Gaddafi.

As journalist George Monbiot writes, imperialism did not disappear; today it is called international law. As he also points out, ”Although the crime of aggression has been recognized in international law since 1945, there is still no jurisdiction over” what he describes as ”the supreme crime.” This is because the powerful nations, for obvious reasons, have delayed its implementation. Neither the United Kingdom, the United States, nor any other Western countries have incorporated the crime of aggression into their domestic legislation.
International law remains an imperialist project in which only crimes committed by vassal states are punished.

The United States has been a rogue empire masquerading as a legitimate nation ever since 1861. The U.S. Constitution was an interstate compact among nine or more separate nations, establishing the electorate of each ratifying state as the ultimate authority of that respective nation—that is, the electorate of the nation-state of New York was the supreme authority in New York, and so on. By 1861, however, charlatans had established the myth that the United States was a single nation founded in 1776 and that the federal government possessed ultimate authority over it. According to this view, it has been a rogue empire ever since, regardless of what it claims to be.

James Madison, the principal architect of the U.S. Constitution and a statesman who warned about the dangers of democracy, oversaw the establishment of the Second Bank of the United States before retiring from public life in 1817, the same year the bank began operations and many years before the Bank War emerged as a major political conflict. Madison had originally opposed the creation of a central bank in 1790, together with Thomas Jefferson, when the Federalist Alexander Hamilton proposed establishing the Bank of the United States. Several of the Founding Fathers believed that such an institution lacked a constitutional basis. However, support for a central bank increased after the War of 1812, leading Madison to reconsider his earlier position.
