BREAKING - Full case details released of the H5N1 Bird Flu human infection detected in Texas - The patient presented with subconjunctival hemorrhage and right eye drainage with no other symptoms. He was in close contact with dairy cows, indicating cattle-to-human transmission. Oral oseltamivir (Tamiflu) (75 mg twice daily for 5 days) was used for treatment. Over the following days, the worker reported resolution of conjunctivitis without respiratory symptoms. No genetic markers associated with reduced susceptibility to influenza antiviral drugs were identified. 🧬🧬🧬Genome sequences from the conjunctival swab specimen revealed that the virus 🦠🦠🦠 belonged to clade 2.3.4.4b, which belongs to the same H5N1 clade the @USDA is currently performing ➡️gain-of-function ⬅️ experiments on at the Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SEPRL) in Athens, Georgia. 😱
