(Gave two reasons: Told lack of technical work for me, more focused on report and presentations and management, coordination and timely delivery of reports Told that my goals were IAS and Indian Railways, so thought of preparing for ESE first) *She smiled and said u are in a ladder ( career wise, moving step by step) & now u have to prepare for civil services as both of your goals are there now😂 2) Role of consultants in highway projects? (basically wanted to know how the project is done from start to end, Tenders, Consultant, DPR, Bids, Contractors bid etc etc) 3) Boss name, company turnover, is it a big or small company, how many departments and people were there? 4) Cyrus Mistry accident, road accidents, what is the fault and reasons, how to make it better? 5) Highway Design, QCBS (Quality & Cost Based Selection) in bidding • Mostly everything from Work Experience and Job profile Member 1 1) Two questions about Canal system (don't remember exactly what) ( Said I am not aware of it) 2) Slope Protection Methods 3) There is a water supply pipeline going from authority to consumer, now the consumer says that he is not getting the amount of water that he is paying for, how will u check the issue? (Something like that) 4) What is Piping? 5) Spillway and energy dissipation? Member 2 1) So u have done MSc in Chemistry, how does this dual degree program work? 2) Use of Chemistry in Civil Engineering? Latest advancements? ( Told about Nanochemistry and nanotechnology in civil engineering with some examples in different areas like nanoparticles in concrete, self healing asphalt, nanosensors in structure health monitoring, nanobubble tech to improve DO and bring back dead water bodies in life etc etc, so discussion went that way, he wanted to know about a particular nano compound, couldn't tell the name, but told the concept) 3) IOT in Civil Engineering? 4) Hardness of water and permissible limit? 5) If drinking water from supply is salty, what compound is the reason? • Mostly everything from Chemistry and its application in civil engineering Member 3 1) Continued from Smita Ma'am discussion on QCBS in bidding, and DPR etc (Job profile) 2) Indonesia earthquake recently in news...Why it occurred? What was the one special thing that caused so much damage? ( Said didn't follow that news in depth so don't know about that special thing, then he told it was liquefaction, so the next question was-) 3) What is liquefaction? 4) How to protect buildings from Earthquakes, both the new construction and the already constructed ones? 5) Then something about Nominal cover in M50 slabs (don't remember exactly) - Thats all, you can go. Have u seen any water treatment plant? 5. From where your hometown gets drinking water from? 6. How would carry it from there and supply it to the houses? 7. How would you know that water has been disinfected properly and is safe for supplying? 8. There is major problem of water lowering of water table in punjab, how as a civil engineer would u deal with that? 9. (Shows a biseri bottle), there is major criticism of this packaged water, are u aware of that? 10. There is also a criticism that it removes the required minerals, so whats your take on that? Technical 1: So you have done MTech in structure... How many types of live loads are there? (*Shocked to hear that live load has types)... In my answer I said somewhere 'earthquake load' Then the entire conversation went to rapid fire round about earthquake designing, from zone factor values, R, I, Sa/g to calculation of base shear to force distribution (even the formulas) Technical 2: 1. What is the height of a office building? **Okay u are not sure, 2 what is the dimension of a office building(or maybe room, not sure)? **Okay u are not aware of the values 3. What gate width would you provide in a office,? **Okay u don't know any practical values 4. What is the name of the code which specifies all these dimensions? **Okay u are not aware 5. Have u ever heard of National building code? 6. Suppose you saw a design of roof of this room, and u find out that it's failing, what would you do? 7. How would you provide r/f at the corners? 8. What other subjects you like? *Said geotech and environment 9. Have you heard of Environmental impact assessment? 10. How would you do EIA in a forest? **Okay u are not aware 11. What is the maximum(*or min, not sure) period to get NOC for EIA? **Okay u are not able to recall 14. So what do you know in Environment then? 15. Okay so water and waste water treatment, but that's different from environment na? *Chairperson signalled him to stop (stop the humiliation infact🥲) Technical 3: 1. So you said waste water treatment, what is a tertiary treatment? *Feeling humiliated, Didn't wanted to say I don't know, I asked him, Is sludge digestion tertiary? *he smiled and said no its secondary 2. So is sludge digestion aerobic or anaerobic? 3. In anaerobic digestion, some people say there are 2 steps, some say 3 steps, how many steps are there? Do you know? 4. How after hydrolysis, acid comes? 5. Why do we prefer anaerobic digestion? 6. What is the percentage of methane in the gases? 7. Do you know the calorific value of methane? *From here started I Don't know streak 8. Govt is promoting gobar gas plants now a days, Have you seen any? **Okay u haven't 9. Gobar gas plants has a major operational trouble, what is that? **No don't say I dont know, the answer lies in the previous answer you have given, relate to that **Then I said its diificult to maintain the pH, bacteria gets upset...from there contd.. 10. How would u maintain the pH? 11. What should be the range? **Okay u are not sure 12. Have you heard of expansion joints? 13. Why they are provided? 14. Have u seen them anywhere? (*In CC pavements) 15. What is the gap between them? (*I said we calculate the length based on strength, he interrupted) 16. No I want to know the general spacing? (*I said 45-50m) 17. Do we provide anything in that space? 18. Give some examples of those filler materials? 19. What other joints you see in the pavements?
