F - What were the subjects you studied?

F - What was your favourite subject?
Me - Fundamentals of HRM
F - HR was your favourite subject?
Me - Yes ma'am, it was a major paper (should have told Organizational Behavior, Training and Development, etc. instead but nvm)
F - Tell me about some motivational theories which are applicable in the workplace?
Me - Told about Maslow's and Herzberg's theories
F (interrupting in between) - Can you give me the examples of hygiene factors and motivational factors
Me - Told
F - Are you sure? Is basic pay a hygiene factor?
She tried so hard for 30 secs or so to confuse me and stressed that I might be wrong. She also asked me to imagine myself as an employee who is getting low pay but has a good relationship with the manager
Me - Told that basic pay is a necessity because if it doesn't match with the industry standards, it'd eventually lead to dissatisfaction and thus the employee may leave the company despite having a good relationship with the manager.
F - Suppose you are working in a place where your AC is not working and the workplace is not clean. Which factor would it be?
Me - Told that it is a motivational factor because the hygiene factors are about surviving with the basic needs like good pay, job security, etc. first and then looking towards the environment.
F - You are right on the basic pay part. It is a hygiene factor but the AC not working and the untidy workplace also come under hygiene factors as you mentioned that hygiene factors are extrinsic needs.
Me - Thanked her for sharing this.
F - Do you know about the 3 needs as mentioned in Acquired Needs Theory?
Me - Told that it was proposed by McClelland and mentioned affiliation and achievement and apologized because I couldn't remember the third one.
F - The third one is power. Can you give me the examples of affiliation and achievement?
Me - Told
F - So, which of these needs are you looking for right now?
Me - Told that affiliation is what I'm looking for as I want to implement the learnings I received from my college's Entrepreneurship Cell and apply it to IIM Sambalpur's clubs and committees and build a good network.
F - Have you got calls from other IIMs?

F - Do you know who the governor of RBI is?

F - Do you know which state is Sambalpur situated in?

WAT Topic: Many young CEOs have succumbed to cardiac arrest. Do you think chasing ambition and financial success comes at a cost? Provide your opinion.
WAT Duration: 25 minutes
Interview Panel: Panel D-12, consisting of three male panelists. I identified two of them from the faculty directory—Prof. Anirvan Pant and Prof. Samit Paul. The third panelist was likely an alumnus.

M1: Are you aware of the Sheeshmahal controversy?
Me: Provided details based on what I had read.
M1: Do you know the latest developments related to this controversy?
Me: I wasn’t aware of the exact updates but mentioned some accounting frauds in a similar context. (In hindsight, the panelist was referring to a proposal to convert Sheeshmahal into a museum, which I missed.)
M1: Apart from Trump, what other global news have you been following?
Me: Discussed Chinese tariffs on Canadian goods and Deep Seek.
M1: Asked follow-up questions regarding these topics.
Me: Responded accordingly.
M2: Engaged in a general discussion about Mumbai, Dehradun, and Kolkata (since my first job was in Mumbai).
M2: You have mentioned chess in your application. Can you explain the difference between a beginner, yourself, and a grandmaster?
Me: Provided an explanation.
M2: Are you familiar with Scholar’s Mate? Please demonstrate it on paper.
Me: Explained and drew the sequence.
(At this point, M3, a professor of Finance, took over.)
M3: Can you explain Net Present Value (NPV)?
Me: Answered.
M3: What is the expected rate of return?
Me: Answered.
M3: How does the interest rate impact NPV? What happens when interest rates change?
Me: Explained.
M3: Which specialization are you interested in?
Me: Answered.
M1: That’s all from our side. Do you have any questions for us?
Me: Thanked them and concluded the interview.
Overall Experience
The interview lasted approximately 20–23 minutes. It was a relaxed conversation, and I didn’t feel stressed at any point.

I said that it does not require any money then Female panelist told that it does not require initial money and depend on the place and people. Female looks excited about it.
F - Tell me more about the places you work and revenue you do?
F - how people are contacting you?
Have you done any paid marketing or ads ?
F - top 3 trekking destinations according to business and what is the split in local and outside.
F - How much money you are going to make from revenue?
M- What are your career plans and are you going to continue this venture after MBA?

I said thank you to both of them and left the meeting with a smile. Also I had a smile throughout the meeting and tried to be as jolly as possible.

No WAT/GD.
3 panelists - 2 male and 1 female.
Male panelists age range - P1 50-60, P2 40-50
Female panelist age range - P3 30-40
P1 - Greets me and asks me to briefly give my intro.
P2 - immediately asks to justify my gap year.
Me - started by a small intro till my gap year and then gave reasons for my gap years.
P1 walks off.
P2 - SOP related questions.
Me - answered.
P2 - some SOP related cross questions.
Me - answered.
P3 - asked another SOP related question.
Me - answered.
P2 - asked about Xavier's.
Me - answered. Gave a few details about Xavier's that I had learned through the About section of the XIM website and Xavier's University website. Focused more on how Xavier's aims to produce quality individuals that help transform the society in a positive way by helping and following a just and humane treatment.
P2 - asked some questions regarding my profile - sports related (football).
Me - answered. Said that my involvement in sports was very short-lived (this is also why I have a gap) and I immediately realised my contributions can prove useful elsewhere. (I have also done a few content writing internships so mentioned this as well) I said I tried to achieve some success in the writing industry but soon realised writing is something I want to pursue for personal pleasure and interest, then I ventured further and made a decision to go for an MBA. (Kinda steered to why MBA part at the end).
P3 - appreciated my efforts and asked for some follow ups. Specifically asked about leadership at the end.
Me - answered the follow ups which were about the why MBA part and later on gave some personal insights about leadership and what kind of impact it has in the business and management world.
P3 - asked me why HRM.
Me - answered. Didn't resort to using any generic answer and gave a very honest and true to myself answer. She seemed quite satisfied.
P2 - some follow ups on the HRM bit and asked how HRM fits into my goals and where do I see myself 5 years down the line.
Me - answered the follow ups. Got a bit stuck in how HRM fits into my goals.
P2 wasn't satisfied with my answer and said that it was a very broad/generic response. Somehow managed to stay on track and answered the 5 years down the line carefully taking utmost caution. Me - happily and confidently answered by stating the basic definitions and giving a solid example. I said that leaders and managers share a lot of qualities but there is a very fine line that separates the two. Gave the example of a football team's coach and the team captain. The coach is more like a manager who is responsible to extract the resources needed to fulfill a task and the captain acts more like a leader who guides, encourages, and calms the team at times of needs and also fights for the team showing that the leader has the team's back. She seemed satisfied with this elaborate answer.

Me - answered. I said Sunil Chhetri is one such leader who has inspired me the most. Gave a few details about him and concluded my answer by saying that if I get the opportunity, I'll try to become like him and do the hard work so that the surrounding people and the next gen learns and walks along the same path. Me - started by a small intro till my gap year and then gave reasons for my gap years.

Me - answered. Gave a few details about Xavier's that I had learned through the About section of the XIM website and Xavier's University website. Focused more on how Xavier's aims to produce quality individuals that help transform the society in a positive way by helping and following a just and humane treatment.
P2 - asked some questions regarding my profile - sports related (football).
Me - answered. Said that my involvement in sports was very short-lived (this is also why I have a gap) and I immediately realised my contributions can prove useful elsewhere. (I have also done a few content writing internships so mentioned this as well) I said I tried to achieve some success in the writing industry but soon realised writing is something I want to pursue for personal pleasure and interest, then I ventured further and made a decision to go for an MBA. (Kinda steered to why MBA part at the end).
P3 - appreciated my efforts and asked for some follow ups. Specifically asked about leadership at the end.
Me - answered the follow ups which were about the why MBA part and later on gave some personal insights about leadership and what kind of impact it has in the business and management world.
P3 - asked me why HRM.
Me - answered. Didn't resort to using any generic answer and gave a very honest and true to myself answer. She seemed quite satisfied.
P2 - some follow ups on the HRM bit and asked how HRM fits into my goals and where do I see myself 5 years down the line.
Me - answered the follow ups. Got a bit stuck in how HRM fits into my goals.
P2 wasn't satisfied with my answer and said that it was a very broad/generic response. Somehow managed to stay on track and answered the 5 years down the line carefully taking utmost caution.
