Here's why: Yes, it sounds like something made up but it's an actual NSE trading mechanism.
😄 For securities classified as illiquid, NSE conducts trading through Periodic Call Auction sessions rather than continuous normal-market trading.
And here's the unusual part: ⏱️ Each session lasts exactly one hour.
During that hour: 🔹 45 minutes → orders can be entered, modified or cancelled 🔹 8 minutes → order matching & trade confirmation 🔹 7 minutes → buffer period
NSE also says the session's order-entry period closes randomly between the 44th and 45th minute, so even the closing moment isn't perfectly predictable! 👀⏰
📌 Key takeaway: Not every stock trades continuously throughout the day. Some illiquid securities are traded through special periodic call-auction sessions designed specifically for them.
💡 Pro tip: The NSE rule also says that unmatched orders can remain valid and move into the next call-auction session. So an unfilled order doesn't necessarily disappear after that one-hour session.
