Flag designed by Sister Nivedita in 1904, also called Vajr Dhwaj. She got the idea to design the flag while traveling to Bodh Gaya with Rabindranath Tagore and Jagdish Chandra Bose. Flag was first time displayed at Congress session in 1906 in Calcutta.

The first conceptual design for an Indian national flag was created around 1904 by Sister Nivedita, an Irish social worker and chief disciple of Swami Vivekananda. Also known as the Vajra Flag , it was meant to inspire unity and strength during the Swadeshi movement.

The first unofficial national flag of India was unfurled on August 7, 1906, at Parsi Bagan Square in Calcutta (now Kolkata at Green Park).
