Do you remember Semira Mohammed? Her story went viral a few months ago after a video of her being mercilessly beaten by two police circulated on social media. The two police were brought to trial and if I’m not mistaken are currently awaiting the court decision. Do you know what this means? We, on social media have the power to bring the case of Dr Hiwot, who has died after going to AMIN HOSPITAL for a minor procedure, an enema. Her body autopsy states her lung was damaged by being hit by an object on the chest, which caused her to cease breathing. Additionally, there is internal bleeding in various parts of her body (including under her breasts & her hands -showing signs of struggle) which could not have been caused by the procedure/examination. (Read this again.) For FIVE YEARS her mother has been seeking justice with no avail. But we can now help her case to be noticed and come to light. A little sick, you decide to go to the nearest hospital to get an Enema. A simple procedure. You call your mom and tell her you will call her when you are done. Perhaps you even tell her you are excited to have dinner with her that night. During your drive to the hospital, you pause to reflect on the past 7 years, the stressful, tiring, agonizing 7 years you've spent in medical school. But you've just graduated exactly 32 days ago. You made it. You survived medical school. Now you are a doctor filled with hope to help others. You think of how your mom was excited when you graduated. That makes you feel energized, and you even forget you are sick for a moment. 'I am a doctor. I am a doctor,' you repeat the words in awe. You arrive at the hospital feeling better than you did earlier. But then that’s it. That’s all you remember. You are now lying lifeless in your mother's hands. She cries out your name in pain. She is grieving the loss of a daughter. Your body is bruised. You’re dead. Your hopes and dreams are gone. Tragic isn’t it? This is the TRUE STORY of Doctor Hiwot. 5 years ago, Dr Hiwot, 24, went into a hospital for a simple procedure. After a few hours, her lifeless naked body wrapped in nothing but a sheet was given to her mother. In her body autopsy, internal bleeding could be seen in her head. There was also bruising throughout her body which showed signs of sexual assault. Yet, no one has been held accountable for her death. Justice has not been served.
