I thought it was time for an update... many are asking us if we are back home yet. Short answer - no! I believe they are putting our kitchen back tomorrow, but not confirmed. We've had to wait a month for our new bench tops but should be ready to go. Meanwhile, we've also had to wait a month for the structural engineers report (the second one). It's back now. Apparently we have live borers in a couple of our bearers. This is not covered by insurance so I'm waiting to find out exactly what it means. Suncorp said they'll give me a completion date this week. Selwyn is doing really well. For the past 3 weeks I've been taking him out in the car. This is massive and has made such a difference. Before he virtually couldn't leave the house apart from an occasional trip in the elec wheelchair to Bunnings or whatever. It's been a tough slog for him as it relied on the odd visitor to help him pass the day. He's been walking in the 4 wheeler walker although at this point in time I'm not game to let him do it by himself. I walk beside him. This past week he's been doing short 'sprints' about 2 metres or more, unaided. As you can imagine I'm right there! Gradually, ever so gradually, he's proving 2 physiotherapists wrong who pronounced he would never walk again. One of them told me that Selwyn continues to prove her wrong. It's not easy, but God is with him and always encouraging him on.

This evening I heard from Nicci, my support person from Suncorp. The news is not so good. There is more damage which will require us to be out of the home for at least another month... and I think that may be 'best case scenario!' We have to make a further decision about accommodation. We are booked in here until the 21st June... not sure after that. Yes it is quite devastating to be virtually going home and then get hit with this. It's going to involve another engineer and I think drawings. Ugh. But, although I have many questions, a lot of them already asked... we are not going to jump up and down and generally be difficult. We will take the higher road. Appreciate those who are praying us through this journey, many heartfelt thanks.💞🙏👍

As you know it's been anticipated we'll be going home this coming Friday. Are we??? We don't at this point in time know! The bathroom is finished - they've done a beautiful job... laundry etc all done.. except... The kitchen and butlers needs the new vinyl. But... As they were pulling it up guess what happened? Did you guess right? Mold!!! Devastating!! I believe tomorrow the Suncorp assessor will be taking a look so I won't know what's what until after that. I know. I know. It should have been sussed out before but it is what it is. Pray!

On Friday we had a beautiful day out. An angel friend gave me a gift to spend 'wherever needed"! So no-one else was home so we hired the Maxi Taxi to the surf club so we could walk the couple of km to the Mall. We did all that and had a most enjoyable day... but... Unfortunately, when the taxi lady was getting Selwyn out of the vehicle, she inadvertently put the lift to the ground, rather than up where it should have been. She didn't realise and pushed Selwyn backwards so he landed on his back on the ground!!!! It was a shocking situation. Fortunately Selwyn was totally unhurt. The headrest on the wheelchair worked overtime. Ofcourse thinking of what happened later in the day brought him to tears. The taxi lady was so shaken I had to hug her so she could continue to work. A very strange situation indeed. He didn't hit his head or whiplash his neck... no pains or hurts anywhere. Somehow our God allowed him to go through it but protected him at the same time.

I was just about to tell you we have 2.2 weeks left to go...(2 weeks, 2 days)... but... Yes, they've added another couple of weeks so now we're back to 4.2 weeks!! I'm yet to learn if we can stay put or not. Although the house here is very nice/good, I feel like we're in a prison. Can only go for walks up and down our little street. Doors always open for visits - makes us both happy. 23 Gadsby St Stony Rise An O.T. is coming tomorrow to talk to us about an electric wheelchair, so we will see. Finding someone to supply an industry standard ramp for home is proving a problem... there has to be a way. All I know is that God's got this.

Ok, my appointment at the house went very well. The floor is down now, so walls to be plastered in this coming week, waterproofing, surveyor approval and then tiles... so it's all happening. I have nothing but praise for Suncorp and the building corporation. All the guys I deal with have been exceptional. We realised today that 1 week of our 5 weeks has already gone... where did that week go???

Decision made! I listened to the many comments you guys made and in the end decided you were right! We're staying put!! It's 19 metres from front door to back door in a straight line. I'm so happy to tell you that yesterday and today, Selwyn walked the whole way and back on a 2 wheeler walker with wheelchair following behind just in case. Praise the Lord indeed! He's come a long way since leaving hospital. He broke down in 'happy tears'!! I'll talk about our house in the next update as they've asked me to attend tomorrow to make sure I'm happy. Once again, I can't thank you all enough for your continued support.

Yes, we have moved again and we were to move back out again on Wed... but somehow our booking by the river got screwed up. Apparently another insurance agency booked it for the exact same dates as we did, and at the same time... and AirBnb approved it straight away which doesn't normally happen. Michael the owner thought it was us. He usually approves the booking. So weird! Now we are in a brand new house especially built for disability... just finished. Lots of room, but bare red dirt all around, large communication tower across the street, surrounded by high fences all around, isolated but nearby the Home Centre where Trent works. Literally just around the corner! A quite steep hill means I have no hope taking Selwyn to the shops. Relying on whenever Jaydyn is around. Can we do this for 5 weeks when I can't take Selwyn out in the car or take him anywhere? That's the decision to be made. We are booked here to Friday but it's available until we go home. Would mean no more moving!!! The house us coming along... tell you more next time.

Well, here we are, back in Victoria Parade! Oh my, it's all so tiring and a jolly good sleep is in order. Our time at The Sanctuary was nice enough but truly, we counted down the days for our return here. At this point in time it's only for 11 days and unless we receive a cancellation on this place we'll be on the move again!! Things have definitely been moving with our house so we are very hopeful we'll get to return on the 15th May. Selwyn continues to slowly improve, especially noticeable in his exercises... it's so good to see. But, we are not up to the walking stage yet although he's taken some steps along the way... never without support of some kind though. At least here there are so many more places he can go unlike where we have just been. Thank you for your continued support, it is SO appreciated.

Here we are after one full day in the new airbnb. One thing I can say it sure gets plenty of sunshine... beautiful. But unfortunately our move was a complete fiasco. Removalists and taxi all organised yesterday for around 3pm. Taxi came so I left too so I could be at the new address. Many phone calls following me... they can't take the medical bed over un till the next day! What to do? Ring another wheelchair taxi and send him back to Victoria Pde! We had to remake up beds and stay overnight while Trent and Kelly came here. All up really early and finally the bed departed with Selwyn following later. Three taxi fares to do one job... $78 later! It's been a stressful time, that's for sure. Next thing... on arrival we find the bedrooms are far too small to house the extra bed with space. So where have we put him... in the lounge room. Furniture moved in every direction and then we read house rules... no moving of furniture! Fortunately Ben, the host, was very gracious and said this was definitely an exception. So... God is still looking after us.

Prayer Partner update: Last night I happened to ask the Lord for something today (regarding Selwyn) for me to exclaim... it's amazing! I guess I was kinda expecting just one thing... but no... the Lord had multiple things in mind!!! I was reminded on my prayer after I found myself exclaiming... it's amazing. So hard to express in a few words, but the difference thus week to only a few days ago in his ability to do his exercises is wonderful. Today he took 8 small steps holding on to the Sara Steady... that's the first steps he's taken since the accident in November. He was able to sit up on the edge of the bed from lying down... first time since forever. I wanted to tell you to continue to encourage you in your prayers... things are happening because we are being chased down by goodness and mercy. Praise God for these encouragements along the way.

Further update: Well we have now been informed of our new date of return home... 15th May! Apparently they want me to go up to the house end of this coming week for a walk-through and explanation of the proceedings and I presume they’ll begin the following week. Selwyn got a glowing report from the physio the other day... she was really happy with his progress. It very much encouraged him. 👍🙏🙃

Selwyn update: He has been coming ahead in many wonderful ways. Yes, little by little. Apart from physio we got him to stand up on the Sara Steady. At first, we counted to 5 before sitting again...then 10 and after a number of days we hit 250... Well done Selwyn! Then I worked on him to stand 'no hands'. More of a challenge but gradually it happened with no support at all. Ofcourse the seat was immediately behind him and he could grab the bar at any time... and my hand was behind his back. Once again, it was a time for celebration! Then... I decided it was time to try out the weight bearing... standing first on one foot and then the other. He couldn't do it to start with but yesterday he did both feet alternatively 5 times. Yay!!! Thank you for your prayers and wonderful support. We are in this together, of this I am sure. We have been receiving support of a special kind from some wonderful people who are giving up a couple of hours of their time to come be with Selwyn so I can go out if necessary. Selwyn has loved every minute of it. He's such a people person and it means so much to him. Thanks guys.

Well today Selwyn has been home with us for 2 weeks! There have been some challenges as we adapted to using the equipment to move him from here to there. He is doing well in himself with many improvements here and there... it's been wonderful to see. He can now stand up on the Sara Steady to the count of 100... a massive improvement. He is loving being home after 11 weeks in 3 hospitals. The family have been very good sitting with him so I can slip out to the shops, or up to care for our house. Ive also put out a call to some family/friends in our more local area to see if there's any who could come spend a bit of time with Selwyn to allow me a little more freedom when family are off working or other. We are on the countdown of the final month here in this airbnb unless we're fortunate enough for a cancellation to come through which would enable us to stay here until our house is ready, or for the miracle of our house being completed and we can go home. Uhmmm... no, they haven't been able to start yet so... Once again, thank you for being there with us through this journey and a half!

He's coming home! Those who prayed concerning this are a part of the miracle. I followed each step as it was given to me and the Lord turned around a definite NO within 2 days and they're delivering him home tomorrow. Almost got my head in a spin. The hospital was not going to supply me with the equipment I required because we are currently living in an airbnb... but then God stepped in. Thank you one and all for your faithfulness.

I know you are waiting to hear the outcome of last week... well it kinda carried over into this week, so I have been waiting. They want to either send Selwyn home or to a nursing home. There was quite definite improvement but not enough. In my opinion he's not at a stage I/we could manage him at home as I have requested a few things. I mean, he's still either using the steady or standing up in a walking frame... but not anywhere near walking. To be honest, I really want him out of the system... I see them doing so many things that wouldn't be happening at home... things that have a detrimental affect to his health... and they hand out painkillers like lollies. Fortunately he usually says no. Please pray for continued guidance for me to make right decisions and thank you for your prayers for Selwyn. I do not believe they are in vain. It's a very difficult time but we must remain positive and claim our victories.
