Once and Future Zeitgeists (4 of 4) “We critics of modernity are in the same boat: not bringing about the death of modernity, but heralding it, like Nietzsche’s Madman, or Hegel’s Owl of Minerva, which takes flight only at dusk. In every case, the great minds give expression to a change in the Zeitgeist they did not themselves initiate — something that was, as we say, ‘in the air’. But how did the change actually get underway? What is the something that was ‘in the air’? And what is the something that is metaphorically expressed as ‘the air’? For Heidegger, these questions simply cannot be answered. The reason is that, at any given time, our way of making sense of things, of understanding things as they are, is conditioned by whatever the Zeitgeist happens to be.” — from Being & “The Birds” (2024) by Derek Hawthorne, Cinephile Books Edition, p. 58-59 https://counter-currents.com/product/being-and-the-birds/

Once and Future Zeitgeists (3 of 4) “‘But surely’, one may persist, ‘some people really are the authors of major cultural change; change in how we understand what things are. Admittedly, it is not I. It is men like Descartes, who brought about a sea change in Western thought, and helped create the modern mind’. To this, Heidegger would respond that men like Descartes are merely articulating a change in the Zeitgeist that was underway before they ever set pen to paper. This is why Descartes was so enthusiastically received by so many: he came along ‘at the right time’.”

Once and Future Zeitgeists (2 of 4) “Indeed we are not, as individuals or as a group, the masters of these conditions. Rather, they master us. As a simple illustration of this, just think of all the people around us who are in thrall to the modern, liberal Zeitgeist — without, for the most part, being aware of it. Think of the countless people who intone the slogan ‘diversity is our greatest strength’, as if they think it was their own personal coinage. Then consider your own sense of detachment from that Zeitgeist, ‘Surely’, you think to yourself, ‘I have transcended my historical situation; surely, I am in control’. Until, inevitably, you are brought face to face now and then with the ways in which you are very much a product of your time, and always will be.”

Once and Future Zeitgeists (1 of 4) “Hiedegger notes that while moderns theorize that historical change is due to conscious human thought and decision (as in the notion that philosophers are the ‘hidden legislators’ of mankind), our actual experience of our relationship to history is markedly different. As Greg Johnson notes…: ‘When individuals reflect upon language, culture, and history, we experience them as things that existed before our consciousness emerged, as things that will continue to exist after our consciousness has ended, and as external forces that envelope and enthrall us. They do stand over us as objects — and also behind us as conditions of our subjectivity.’

A Day in the Life August 3, 1914 “On 3 August 1914, I presented an urgent petition to His Majesty, King Ludwig III, requesting to be allowed to serve in a Bavarian regiment. In those days, the chancellery had its hands full, and I was therefore all the more pleased when I received an answer the next day. I opened the document with trembling hands; no words could describe the joy that I felt on reading that I was instructed to report to a Bavarian regiment. Within a few days, I was wearing the uniform that I was not to take off again for nearly six years.” — from Mein Kampf (1925) by Adolf Hitler, the Dual German-English translation by Dr. Thomas Dalton, Clemens & Blair Edition, 2017, Vol. I, Chap. 5, p. 323

Olympic Salute (2 of 2) “If you really love the Olympics, you would do the official Olympic salute? It goes like this: right arm out slightly and pointed upward, fingers together, palm out. Kind of like you’re raising your hand in class. It also kind of looks like you’re heiling Hitler. Which is why no one uses the official Olympic salute anymore. The Olympic salute caused all sorts of confusion in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Apparently no one could tell which teams were saluting Hitler, and which were saluting the Olympics.” — from the article Source: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/the-olympic-salute-we-dont-use-anymore-because-it-looked-too-much-like-heiling-hitler-19789031/ [Featured is The Olympic Salute by Gra Rueb, sculpted for the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam]

Olympic Salute (1 of 2) “…any sports fan willing to spend two or three hours in a library reading unbiased accounts of the 1936 Berlin games can convince himself that today’s Jewish version of what happened there and then is almost exactly contrary in every particular to the truth. …Hitler and his government exemplified the ideals not only of sportsmanship, but also of hospitality, in the view of nearly everyone who was there; and if anyone behaved in an unsportsmanlike way, it was the U.S. team, which was under orders not to extend the customary courtesy of the Olympic salute to the Tribune of Honor, where Hitler sat.” — William Luther Pierce, from National Vanguard magazine, Issue No. 100, May 1984, p. 19. Nations resort to fancy light displays to show their vitality. Like fireworks they are awe-inspiring and fun to watch, but that won’t propel their native culture into the future.

Movement (2 of 2) “It means much more the most sacred obligation to the laws of God, if one listens to the ever-progressing laws of life, the call of growth and development of this life. Only those who hear this voice of the time and follow it, who take it upon themselves to break all rigid bonds and inherited schematic laws when the call of the time demands it, can be considered a person of movement.” — from Mastering Life (1942) by Anton Holzner, Invisible Empire Edition, 2024, translated by Daniel Zakal, Chap. 2, p. 13

Movement (1 of 2) “Every period of historical development has its own legality, just as every season and every stage of life in nature has its own norms. The voice of time is the voice of God. It is not spiritual anarchy, and not moral license if one rejects rigid dogmatism and schematization of life.”

Ghost of SS Past (2 of 2) Martha admitted she was not aware of the full horrific truth about her haunting, until decades later when her father, now King Harald V, revealed the room's disturbing past. She said that when she spoke about the paranormal experience with her father, he told her: "Oh, that's the room where the Nazi general took his own life." Martha Louise, a self-proclaimed clairvoyant and fourth in line to Norway's throne, had to step down from Royal duties in 2022 due to her partner Dureck Verrett's (African Shaman) controversial views. Verrett, a former convict who claims to be a shaman, believes that sadness is the cause of child cancer. Source: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/norwegian-princess-claims-ghost-nazi-33235769
