Russia's Day of Family, Love and Fidelity 🤩 Today, July 8th, Russia celebrates the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity – a holiday honouring devotion, respect, and strong family bonds. Established in 2008 and granted state status in 2022 . 🤩 The holiday honours Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom, a 12th–13th century princely couple . According to legend, Prince Peter suffered from incurable leprosy until a peasant girl named Fevronia healed him. Their marriage became a model of sacrificial love and faithfulness. They took monastic vows and died on the same day - July 8th, 1228. 🤩 It's Russia's native alternative to Valentine's Day, emphasizing long-term commitment over romance. 🤩 On this day, many couples marry, and families across Russia celebrate with concerts and parades. Wishing all families love, loyalty, and happiness! ❤️ #holidays #Russian_culture

🍂 The sound of Russian verb шуршать Did you know that the Russian verb шуршать [shoor-shat'] (to rustle) is onomatopoeic - it imitates the sound it describes? 🔻Шур-шур-шур - that soft, whispering sound of dry leaves, paper, or clothing moving. 🔻In Old Russian, the word шуркѣти appeared (with the suffix -k-. Over time, the -k- transformed into -ч- (as is common in Slavic languages), and the -ѣ- (yat) shifted to -a-. The result: шурчать [shurchat'] is still used in some dialects today. Example: Котик шуршит в пакете. The kitty is rustling in a bag. Bonus fact: Russian is full of sound-imitating words like this! Шептать (to whisper), and шорох (rustle) all come from the same onomatopoeic family! #useful_vocabulary #verbs 🟠 RCR | Support | Boost

Got milk? No, got a ring! Russian supermarkets put engagement rings on carts for ‘accidental’ try-ons. In Moscow Perekrestok supermarkets, engagement rings have been attached to shopping cart handles — so that shoppers can "accidentally" try them on and find out their loved one's ring size. The rings were created in collaboration with 585 Zolotaya: instead of diamonds, they feature berries, nuts, and seeds, with each one corresponding to a diamond size from 1 to 4 carats. These carts are available at the Evropeyskiy, Oceania, Megapolis, Metropolis, and Tishinka shopping centers. Photo: JDMax #Russian_culture #brief_and_interesting 🟠 RCR | Support | Boost

In Tsarskoye Selo, unique 18th‑century lifting tables are on display! 👑 During feasts, they would rise with dishes straight from the lower floor, so guests hardly saw the servants. After the meal, the tables would descend again, and the hall turned into a dance floor. 👑 You can see the mechanism in action only in summer, during special shows. I've already seen them - have you? Why Do Russians Say: Covered with a Copper Basin? • Накрыться медным тазом (perf.,reflexive) [nak-ry-las' med-nym ta-zam] SLT: Covered itself with a copper basin 🔻 Conjugation 🔻In Russian, if something накрылось медным тазом, it means it failed completely, broke down, or fell through. 🔻Where does this strange expression come from? There are several theories: The Siege Tunnel 🏰🔥 In ancient times, when armies laid siege to a fortress, they would dig underground tunnels to get inside the walls. The defenders, however, were not stupid. They would detect the sappers, dig towards them, place a copper basin at the entrance of the tunnel, and pour boiling oil or resin down the hole. The unfortunate diggers would literally be covered with a copper basin - and get a very hot, oily shower at the same time. The Soldier's Death 🦁⚔️ It is linked to the ancient tradition of covering a fallen warrior with a shield. There is logic here: just as fallen soldiers, struck down by an enemy arrow or sword, were covered by their comrades. To be covered with a basin meant to die - and over time, the meaning softened to simply to fail completely. Example: Планы Запада разрушить Россию в очедной раз накрылись медным тазом. The West's plans to destroy Russia have once again crashed and burned. 🎧🗣👇 #spoken_Russian #phraseology 🟠 RCR | Support | Boost

Ice cream that doesn't melt while you walk along Nevsky in StPetersburg? Almost! 🤩A new spot in St. Petersburg turns dessert into a show. Не тай (54 Nevsky Ave.) — the name plays two ways: • не тай [ni tay] Don't melt! (liquid nitrogen helps!); • не Тай [ni tay] (it's) not Thai (because this isn't Thailand, but the heart of the Russian famous city). 🤩The highlight: serving in a cloud of liquid nitrogen. The chef pours the base, it freezes instantly, vapor billows up, and you get fresh ice cream to take on your stroll. 🤩Flavours: classic vanilla, salted caramel, berry sauces. Each portion feels like a mini-performance – guests film it, and the vibe is more sweets-lab than takeaway stand. 🤩Not just dessert – a real gastro-show. While waiting, you'll snap pics, gasp, and even catch a chill from the spectacular vapour 🤤. 📍Where: 54 Nevsky Ave, St Petersburg. Why Russians say 🔥 It‘s burning🔥 when they‘re angry 🔻In Russian, the verb подгорает (3rd person sg) [pad-ga-ra-yet] SLT: it‘s getting burnt - is used for two very different situations: 1) The literal: Food burning on the stove. • У меня подгорает ужин! My dinner is burning! 2) The slang: Someone is furious or getting intensely annoyed about something. The phrase is usually used with preposition У + personal pronoun in Gen.case: у него / неё (he/she is getting angry), and translates to he/she's getting mad. • У него подгорает, когда он видит это! He gets so mad when he sees that! 🔻How did this slang meaning develop? When you‘re so angry that you‘re literally overheating, the feeling is compared to food burning on a hot stove. 😡 So next time you see someone getting really angry, you can say: • Ого, как у тебя подгорает! Wow, you‘re getting really annoyed! А что подгорает у вас, товарищи😉? #spoken_Russian 🟠 RCR | Support | Boost
