📌Ethanol Production in India
✅ Major Feedstock: Grains like maize, rice, sugarcane, sweet sorghum, and sugar beet are used for ethanol production. 🌾
✅ Government Push:
National Biofuel Policy (2018) supports ethanol production.
FCI surplus rice is allowed for ethanol when available.
Sugar mills can now convert to multi-feed ethanol plants (2025 policy).
✅ Production & Blending Targets:
Grains to contribute over 60% of ethanol in ESY 2024-25.
Ethanol blending target: 20% by ESY 2025-26 (Already 17.98% achieved till Feb 2025).
✅ Government Incentives:
GST reduced from 18% to 5% on ethanol.
Long-Term Offtake Agreements (LTOAs) between Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and ethanol plants.
✅ Benefits:
✔ Higher farmer income due to demand for maize & grains.
✔ Less pollution – ethanol blending reduces harmful emissions.
✔ Lower oil imports – improves energy security.
