DHUL HIJJAH VIDEO SERIES: 14. The Days of Tashriq: Days of Eating & Drinking The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not fast in these days for they are the days of eating, drinking and remembrance of Allah.” (Aḥmad) The wisdom behind the prohibition of fasting and the command of eating and drinking is noteworthy. After the pilgrims endure difficulty and hardship during the days of ḥajj, Allah hosts and prepares days of rest and happiness for them. Similarly, non-pilgrims also join them in this celebration after going out of their way during the blessed 10 days of Dhul Ḥijjah to fast, perform qurbānī, abundantly remember Allah and seek His forgiveness. Why Are These Days called the Days of Tashriq? The word ‘tashrīq’ takes its name, according to the most common view, from a process used to preserve meat. Prior to the advent of the refrigeration system, the pilgrims would cut up the qurbānī meat, season it and then let it dry in the sun. This process allowed them to preserve the meat for future consumption and take it with them on their journey home.

The Days of Tashriq - Days of Eating, Drinking and Remembering Allah The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The Days of Tashrīq are the days of eating, drinking and the remembrance of Allah.” (Muslim) The above ḥadīth indicates that eating and drinking during the days of Eid should help us to remember Allah (subḥānahū wa ta‘ālā) and obey Him. As the Days of Tashrīq are days of celebration for the believers, fasting is prohibited during these days. Read more: https://lifewithallah.com/featured/the-days-of-tashriq/

DHUL HIJJAH VIDEO SERIES: 13. What Are The Days of Tashriq? The three days following ʿEīd al-Aḍḥā are the Days of Tashrīq (the 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul Ḥijjah). Allah describes these days as ‘the Appointed or Numbered Days’: “Remember Allah during the Appointed/Numbered Days.” (2:203) These days are included among the days of ʿEīd and are from the greatest days of the year. These three days are specified for glorifying Allah, and pelting the jamarāt for those in ḥajj. Subscribe to the Dhul Ḥijjah video series by LWA (Life With Allah): https://youtu.be/bVvZEI_J7ck

The Prophet’s Hajj ﷺ - Part 25 Stoning the Jamarat • After mid-day, the Prophet ﷺ walked to the Jamarāt. 1. Starting at the first one, he threw 7 small stones, glorifying Allah with each stone. He then walked away from the crowd, stopped and faced the qiblah, continued to praise Allah and made duʿā’ for a very long time (equivalent to the time it takes to recite Sūrah al Baqarah). 2. He then walked to the second Jamarah doing the same as the first, but making duʿā’ for an even longer period. 3. He then walked to Jamarah al-ʿAqabah, threw 7 stones, glorifying Allah with each one, and walked away without stopping. • He repeated the above on both the 12th and 13th of Dhul-Ḥijjah.

The Prophet’s Hajj ﷺ - Part 24 Your Blood, Property & Honour On the 11th of Dhul-Ḥijjah, the Prophet ﷺ climbed on a grey mule to deliver a speech, with the following messages: • All believers are brothers. Everyone has been created equal – the only distinguisher in front of Allah is taqwā. • Be kind to your slaves • Your blood, property & honour are forbidden for you. Think & Reflect On three consecutive days, which are the most sacred days of the year, the same message was repeated: Your blood, property and honour are forbidden for you just like the violation of the sanctity of this day, in this month and this city.
