The continuing U.S.–Iran conflict remains the most significant immediate area of concern. Iran has continued missile and drone attacks against U.S. and allied targets following the latest American strikes, including an attack against a U.S. base in Kuwait. At the same time, U.S. officials are reportedly seeking to contain the present round of fighting rather than immediately expand the campaign, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian continues to signal willingness to return to the June interim agreement if Washington reciprocates. The combination of active military exchanges and an incomplete diplomatic off-ramp keeps the possibility of renewed escalation high.
Iran’s nuclear programme remains a separate and particularly important concern. The IAEA has made no progress in verifying Iran’s stockpile of approximately 440.9 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%, and inspectors continue to lack access to key nuclear sites. The inability to determine the location and condition of this material creates increasing uncertainty over Iran’s nuclear capabilities while the military confrontation continues.
Russia–NATO tensions remain under observation following Germany’s attribution of an attempted explosive-drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport to Russian state agencies and the subsequent deterioration in German–Russian relations. There is also a potentially stabilising signal: Russia and Ukraine have both spoken of renewed diplomatic momentum towards ending the war, although no concrete peace framework has yet emerged.
North Korea continues to reject denuclearisation and says its nuclear arsenal will continue to grow. This does not presently indicate unusual nuclear-force preparations, but Pyongyang’s position substantially limits the prospects for near-term progress through renewed U.S. diplomatic outreach.

Current DEFCON level remains 5 – Green. The U.S.-Iran war has seen its heaviest exchange since July, while the IAEA still cannot verify Iran’s 60%-enriched uranium stockpile.
