Metadata Removal Metadata consists of pieces of information that characterize data. Metadata is useful for manipulating and classifying a pool of data, but can reveal sensitive pieces of information that one may not want to reveal. Bits of information such as the manufacturer and model of phone used to take a photo all the way down to GPS coordinates can be embedded in files as metadata. Cleaning files of this information before sharing them is absolutely crucial which is why I have made this list - to enable you to scrub as much metadata as possible from your files before you share them.
