1. Immigration Supports Grassroots Labor Forces
Industries such as construction, agriculture, catering, logistics, and elderly care are often undesirable to locals—low wages, high intensity, and low social recognition. Immigration (especially workers from Eastern Europe, North Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East) fills a significant gap. Seasonal agricultural labor in Germany and the Netherlands, the nursing care industry in the UK, and the harvesting industry in Southern Europe are all highly dependent on immigrant labor. Without this workforce, many grassroots services and economic sectors would grind to a halt.
2. Aging Population and Low Birth Rates: Immigration as a "Blood Transfusion"
Most European countries have a total fertility rate between 1.3 and 1.6, far below the replacement level of 2.1. Simultaneously, life expectancy is increasing, putting growing pressure on pension and healthcare systems. In the short term, immigration can indeed supplement the working-age population, increase the tax base, and alleviate the shortage of caregivers.
