Today, as we celebrate our dear country Nigeria, we use this moment to remember our national heroes who sacrificed to let our country remain stable and progressive.
Let us pause to honor the unwavering dedication of nurses who have sacrificed greatly for our dear country, example includes Her Excellency Victoria Gowon, Justina Ejelonu, Hauwa Liman, Saifura Ahmed, and more. May their sacrifices for our nation's well-being never be forgotten.
Wishing a joyful Independence Day to all.
Warm regards,
Adebanjo Joshua I.

| 5 | Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time for education, outreach, and empowerment.
It encourages women and men to understand their risk factors, practice self-examinations, and schedule regular screenings.
It's a time for communities to come together in support of those battling breast cancer, providing solace and strength to individuals facing this formidable adversary.
As we embark on another Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let us recommit to the cause. Let us honor those who have fought, remember those we have lost, and stand with those currently in the throes of their battle.
Through increased awareness, research, and early detection, we can turn the tide against breast cancer and move ever closer to a world where this disease no longer holds sway.

150% Increase in School Fees and Its Detrimental Impact on the Nursing Education.
The Future Nurses Assembly express our deep concern and opposition to the recent decision of by most universities to increase the school fees by a staggering 150%.
Education is not a privilege reserved for the wealthy but a fundamental right that must be accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic background. It is through education that we empower our youth, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and a thirst for knowledge. By depriving them of this opportunity, we are stifling their potential and compromising the future development of our nation.
Sadly, the exorbitant increase in school fees exacerbates the existing disparity, further marginalizing those who are already oppressed by poverty.
When education becomes a luxury rather than a right, it perpetuates a vicious cycle of poverty, limiting opportunities and entrenching social divides. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds, who are already vulnerable, face an increased risk of dropping out of school, pushing education further out of reach for those who need it the most.
This unfair burden that jeopardizes the future of nursing education in Nigeria.
First and foremost, nursing education already demands an immense amount of dedication, commitment, and sacrifice. We spend countless hours in classrooms, laboratories, and clinical settings to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal care to patients.
The heavy workload and rigorous demands of our program leave us with limited time for part-time jobs or additional sources of income. Consequently, this exorbitant increase in fees places an unfair burden on us, forcing many of us to face financial distress and jeopardize our ability to focus on our studies.
The nursing profession plays an indispensable role in our society, providing critical healthcare services and delivering compassionate care to those in need. As aspiring nurses, we deserve an environment that fosters learning, growth, and professional development, without being hindered by financial constraints imposed by exorbitant fees.
As nursing students, we understand the need for quality education and the associated costs, but such a drastic hike places an undue burden on students from various economic backgrounds, further exacerbating existing inequalities.
The 150% increase in school fees is a shocking escalation that we believe is unjustified and disproportionate to the resources and services provided by the various universities to nursing students.
In light of these concerns, we demand the following:
1. Immediate reconsideration and rollback of the 150% increase in school fees.
2. Transparent communication regarding the financial rationale behind such a drastic fee hike and a detailed breakdown of how the additional funds will be utilized to enhance the quality of nursing education.
3. A commitment from the universities' administration to ensure that the burden of fees remains reasonable and affordable for all students, taking into account the socioeconomic diversity within the student body.
4. Collaboration between the administrations and student representatives to explore alternative means of generating revenue without compromising the accessibility and affordability of education.
We call upon civil society organizations, humanitarian agencies, and fellow citizens who share our vision for a fairer, more equitable society to join us in solidarity. Let us unite our voices and exert pressure on those in power to recognize the long-term consequences of this decision and prioritize the welfare of their children and the future of our nation.
Together, we can bring about positive change, ensuring that education remains a transformative force, empowering every child to break free from the shackles of ignorance and contribute meaningfully to society. Let us not allow financial constraints to extinguish the flames of ambition and hope that burn within our children's hearts. | 459 |

| 11 | Celebrate Nursing Week 2023: "Who is your Nurse?"
As Nursing Week 2023 approaches, we take the time to honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of nurses across the country. This year's theme, "Who is your Nurse?", invites us to celebrate the unique and compassionate care that nurses provide to their patients every day.
From May 6 to May 12, communities, hospitals, and healthcare organizations will celebrate the vital role that nurses play in healthcare. This year, the Nursing Media Network, Nursing Week theme asks us to think about the incredible impact that nurses have on our lives, both in and out of the hospital.
Whether it's the nurse who comforts you during a difficult hospital stay, the nurse who checks on your elderly parent at home, or the nurse who provides essential care in a community clinic, nurses are the backbone of healthcare.
Nursing Week is an opportunity to show our appreciation for the dedication, skill, and compassion that nurses bring to their work every day. We encourage everyone to take the time to thank a nurse and show support for the important work that they do.
History of Nursing Week:
Nursing Week is an annual celebration of the nursing profession and the contributions that nurses make to healthcare. It takes place from May 6 to May 12, in honor of Florence Nightingale's birthday, who is considered the founder of modern nursing. The week-long celebration provides an opportunity for healthcare organizations and communities to recognize and appreciate the vital role that nurses play in healthcare.
