Following an estimates hearing where the issue of cash handling was raised by multiple Senators, including myself, the Reserve Bank stepped in and facilitated a negotiated settlement between the banks, cash customers, and Armaguard. As a result, there was a substantial increase in payments for cash handling services. There is a concerted effort by major banks and retailers to phase out cash in order to increase their profits and control over customers. The Armaguard dispute was just a pretence to hasten the elimination of cash.
