The 1,000-day imprisonment of Jimmy Lai stands as a testament to the Hong Kong Communist regime’s aversion to dissent. The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) failed attempt to institute the Extradition Amendment Bill in 2019 led them to unilaterally introduce the Hong Kong National Security Law, a move perceived as an attempt to quash Hong Kong’s quest for freedom and democracy.
With this legal framework in place, numerous democracy activists, consecutively, find themselves behind bars, becoming casualties of the regime’s assault. Jimmy Lai, the founder of Apple Daily, has maintained his criticism of the regime, a stance that has made him an adversary in the government’s eyes. Lai remarked in a BBC segment, “Fear is the cheapest and most effective way for the regime to control its people.”
On this occasion, Hongkongers in Leeds, along with UK-based Hong Kong organisations, collaborated with Lord David Alton, Benedict Rogers, and Jens Galschiøt to create a video in support of Jimmy Lai. This unity highlights how democracy aligns with universal values.
Jimmy Lai isn’t an isolated case in the narrative of the Communist regime’s suppression. His foreseeable continued detention demands an immediate international response. Hongkongers should stay united, nurture hope, vanquish fear, challenge authoritarianism, and amplify the voice for Hong Kong’s democratic aspirations.

1000日的監禁，代表了港共政權對黎智英先生的忌諱。中共於2019年企圖通過逃犯修訂條例不成，卻逕自實施港區國安法去阻止香港人爭取自由民主。一個又一個為民主奮鬥的人就此被困禁，成為港共摧毀香港核心價值下的犧牲者。
黎智英先生作為蘋果日報的創辦人，一直以來敢於挑戰政權，於時代革命中緊守崗位。 亦正因如此，政權視黎智英先生為眼中釘。政權打算除之而後快，國安法自然成為最方便快捷的工具，無論是黎智英先生，又或是47人案，甚至是唐英傑先生等無名抗爭者，政權都利用此惡法肆意摧殘香港的司法制度，將一個又一個的罪名強加於香港人身上。 然而，以高壓手段去對付人民，是政權膽怯，畏懼人民的表現。正如黎智英先生於BBC 訪問片段中提及：「恐懼是政權控制人民最低廉的方法」。戰勝恐懼，勇敢發聲，是我們對這些身陷囹圄的人的責任和義務。
於黎智英先生被監禁1000日這天，列斯手足連線聯同一眾在英港人團體邀請了Lord David Alton、Benedict Rogers 以及Jens Galschiøt 錄製一段短片聲援黎智英先生以及所有被政治迫害的香港人，可見追求民主自由的冀望仍是會獲得擁抱普世價值者的支持。 黎智英先生並不是港共政權暴政下的唯一受害人，亦可預計他短期內難以重獲自由。在英港人應團結一致，心存希望，戰勝恐懼，勇於對抗政權，堅持為香港事務發聲！

The authoritarian Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is marking its 74th anniversary. HongKongers in Leeds urge your presence at this event to expose the truths about the CCP.
Theme: "Unmasking Truth: Beyond the CCP's Tales"
Format: Silent standing and demonstration
Date: October 1, 2023 (Sunday)
Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Location: Gather at Victoria Square, then walk to City Square. Silent standing and demonstration will take place along this route.
Dress code: In black colour, We've made masks with a red cross to symbolise being silenced for criticising the government. These will be distributed on that day.
The deceptive practices of the CCP cast a shadow over global affairs. They perpetuate falsehoods, engage in covert infiltrations, and more. The CCP challenges the very essence of truth by disputing the realities presented by other nations. Even in 2023, their ability to spread misinformation and advance their agenda remains potent. We, therefore, invite you to join us in making the truth about the CCP visible for all to see. See you soon!

| 8 | Thanks to Nottingham Stands With Hong Kong for holding this exhibition so that we, as organisers of protests, can reflect on the present low tide period of social movement and its future direction under different themes.
There is no answer or conclusion to the question raised. This exhibition allowed people with different roles and opinions to express themselves freely. This may be the period that needs some frank dialogues. You may not be able to stand up and participate in the protest, but it won’t stop me from continuing to fight for freedom. As the old saying goes, “Brothers climb mountains together, but by their own efforts”. At least, Hong Kong people will not forget our original intention. We will strive for success by equipping ourselves.
Honestly, the control over Hong Kong has always been under the Chinese Communist Party. As long as the Communist Party doesn't fall, Hong Kong will never truly belong to Hong Kong people.

Thank you to everyone who joined the 831 rally yesterday. We commemorated the martyrs who sacrificed themselves for Hong Kong, freedom, democracy and the truth, with flowers and candles.
The bouquet of flowers and the candles we held serve as evidence that we haven't forgotten. Though distances separate us, our souls are ever tethered to Hong Kong.
Hongkongers will navigate through these negative dark times, support each other and unite in purpose. The CCP seeks to rewrite history, portray a harsh regime as benevolent, and cast democracy fighters like us as rioters. Yet, we will persist in sharing the truth. Someday, oppressive governance will fade. Hold onto hope.

| 12 | The Labour Rights Seminar and Exhibition of the Hong Kong Trade Union Movement in Leeds, organised by Hongkongers in Britain and co-hosted by Hong Kong Labour Rights Monitor and Hongkongers in Leeds, was successfully held yesterday. We extend our gratitude to all participants for their active involvement and to the speakers for delivering engaging and insightful presentations on labor rights in the UK.
This event significantly benefited all attendees, fostering a deeper comprehension of labor rights. For instance, many of us were unaware that statutory annual leave for workers amounts to 28 days, and work-related injuries are considered under sick leave, as there is no separate provision for such incidents in the UK. Participants also gained an enhanced understanding of trade unions' roles and the significance of joining them. We anticipate that the seminar will offer a comprehensive grasp of labor legislation in the UK.

Hong Kong has undoubtedly turned into the City of Terror.
Thank you, Hong Kongers, for not losing faith and standing out without fear to participate in this exhibition. The exhibition would not have been a success without your help. The exhibition portrayed how the National Security Law has irreversibly changed Hong Kong. Thank you for supporting our petition urging sanctions against Hong Kong government officials who violated the "Sino-British Joint Declaration." Let's urge our government to take the right action and hold the Hong Kong government officials accountable for their evil acts.
Despite numerous losses, fury, persistence, and hope define our future!
Therefore, we will fight for freedom until our last breath!

我們失去了…學術自由
香港已變成了畏懼之城，我們還有甚麼可以失去？
感謝港人沒有失去初心，無懼無畏，出席及參與今次展覽，使今次活動順利舉行。透過展覽，本地人了解到種種香港失去的自由，明瞭國安惡法下的香港不再跟從前一樣。感謝公眾的支持，響應參與英國國會公眾聯署：要求英國政府制裁違反《中英聯合聲明》的港共官員！一同向英國政府施加壓力，盡快制裁相關港共官員。
縱使我們已經失去了很多
但我們沒有失去憤怒，沒有失去堅持，沒有失去盼望！
