Applied Physics 1
Chapter Name ( Units And Dimensions )
Firstly I Will Cover These Topics Of This Chapter
1. Physical Quantities
2. Types Of Physical Quantities
3. Units
4. Type Of Units
5. Systems Of Units
Systems of Units !
There are Three Systems Of Units
1. The CGS System - This Is Also Known As metric and decimal systems.
In This System CGS Stands For Centimeter , Gram , Second ( These are the unit of Length , Weight , Time )
2. The MKS System ( Meter , Kilogram , Seconds ) These Are The Units Of Length, Weight, Time.
3. The System of International Units Also Known As Si System ( It Is The Most Important System In Engineering ) In This System There are 7 main Fundamental Units.
Length , Mass , Time , Temperature , Electricity Current, Luminous Intensity, Amount Of Substance.
The Si system Is the most important one and needed to be completely learned
The Si System Fundamental Units
Length = meter
Mass = kilogram
Time = seconds
Temperature = kelvin
Electricity Current = Ampere
Luminous Intensity = Candela
Amount of Substance = Mol
Types Of Units !
There Are Three Types Of Units
Fundamental , Derived , Supplementary.
These are same as the quantities but here we are looking on units , the best way to know about this is examples
Fundamental Examples -
Length = meter
Mass = kg
Time = seconds
Derived Examples -
Area = square meter m²
Force = Neuton
Volume = cubic meter m³
Supplementary Examples
Angle = Radian
Solid Angle= Steradian
What Is Unit?
A Unit Can Be Defined As An Object ( Physical Quantity ) Or Can Be Length ( value )
Best Way To Understand This Is By Measurement ( If small . Is a specific part of this • big dot , then how many times the small dot is the big dot , Suppose It can be 10 times then , The . Small dot is 10 times of big dot , then . Is the Unit ( . Is the specific quantity of the physical Quantity • )
Example - Length ( Meter Unit )
, Weight ( Kg Unit )
What Is Vector Physical Quantity?
Quantities That Have Both Magnitude ( Value ) And Direction.
Example - Force , Weight , Velocity , Displacement
What Is Scaler Physical Quantity?
Quantities That Only Have Magnitude ( Value )
Example - Length, Area , Volume , Mass
What Is Supplementary Physical Quantity?
Quantities That Are Neither Fundamental and Derived Physical Quantity.
These Are Different From Them
Examples - Angle , Solid Angle
What Is Derived Physical Quantity?
Quantities That Depends On Other Quantities
Example - Area ( Area Is An Derived Quantity Because It Depends On Other Quantities)
Formula Of Area Is Length x Breadth ( Where Area Is An Derived Physical Quantity and Length and Breadth Are Fundamental Physical Quantity )
More Examples Can Be Volume , Density , Force
What Is Fundamental Quantity?
Quantities That Are Independent And Does Not Depend On Other Quantities.
These Are Fixed Quantities ( The Best Way To Understand This Is By Example )
Examples Like Length , Weight , Temperature , Mass , Etc ( These Are Fixed Quantities Than Doesn't Depends On Any Other Quantities , These Are Independent )
On The Basis Of Direction And Magnitude , There Are Two Physical Quantities.
1. Scaler Physical Quantity
2. Vector Physical Quantity
On The Basis Of Units And Measurements , There Are Three Physical Quantities. (1/2)
1. Fundamental Physical Quantity
2. Derived Physical Quantity
3. Supplementary Physical Quantity
Types Of Physical Quantity ! ( 1/1 )
Physical Quantity Can Be Divided Into Two Categories
1.) On The Basis Of Units And Measurements.
2.) On The Basis Of Direction And Magnitude
What is Physical Quantity?
Everything That Can Be Measured In This Universe Is Called Physical Quantity
Examples: Length , Weight , etc
